Maikel Franco hit a two-run home run, helping the Phillies rally late to overcome the Reds on Tuesday.

Franco hammered a Jumbo Diaz breaking ball down the left field line for a no-doubt home run, tying the game up at 4-4. The Phillies would walk off the next inning. Franco also doubled and scored in a 2-for-4 evening. He had been slumping, registering only two hits -- both singles -- in 28 plate appearances over his previous seven games. He's batting .212/.257/.409 with three home runs and 10 RBI over his first 70 plate appearances this season.

Joey Votto knocked in two runs in a 2-for-5 effort as the Reds dropped Tuesday's contest against the Phillies.

Votto got the Reds on the board with an RBI double in the first inning, then broke a 1-1 tie in the third with an RBI single. The first baseman has now knocked in 26 runs on the year while hitting .286/.381/.495 with nine home runs.

Chase Utley homered, one of his three hits over four at-bats Tuesday as the Phillies topped the Reds.

Utley took Johnny Cueto yard in the sixth inning, reducing the Phillies' deficit to 4-2 at the time. The 36-year-old's slow start made plenty of headlines, but he has picked things up at the plate over the last few weeks and is now batting .207/.281/.329 with four home runs and 22 RBI. Despite the hot streak, Utley has shown durability issues in the past and his production wanes as the season progresses, so fantasy owners still need to keep a watchful eye on him.

Taylor Jordan will start on Wednesday against the Blue Jays.

It was expected, but Nationals manager Matt Williams had been delaying the announcement in case Jordan was needed during Tuesday's doubleheader. With Stephen Strasburg (neck) and Doug Fister (elbow) on the shelf, Jordan could make a few starts if he pitches well.

Darin Ruf pinch-hit in the ninth inning and delivered a walk-off RBI single to right field, sending the Phillies to a win over the Reds on Tuesday.

Odubel Herrera led off the inning with a double and was moved to third base on a sacrifice bunt by Carlos Ruiz. Manager Bryan Price opted to have lefty Tony Cingrani pitch to Ruf rather than walk him to face Ben Revere, and Ruf made him pay. He has not been much of a force at the plate this season, batting .225/.276/.393 with three home runs and 10 RBI, but even if he were, the Phillies' crowded outfield situation leaves him on the bench more often than not anyway.

Max Scherzer was on the hook for four runs in six innings, taking the loss Tuesday as the Nationals fell to the Blue Jays 7-3.

All four runs came on two home runs hit by Kevin Pillar: a solo homer in the second, and a three-run blast in the sixth. They were two of six hits Scherzer allowed along with two walks and five strikeouts. It was the first time in five starts Scherzer had allowed more than one run. He carries a fantastic 1.85 ERA with a 0.95 WHIP and a 90/12 K/BB ratio in 77 2/3 innings. Scherzer will try again for his seventh win at home versus the Cubs in his next outing.

Marlon Byrd has been diagnosed with a fractured right wrist.

Byrd suffered the break when he was hit by a Sean O'Sullivan offering during Tuesday's game. It's not clear at this point how long he'll be sidelined, but more is expected to be known after he re-evaluated Wednesday. Brennan Boesch and Skip Schumaker figures to handle left field while Byrd is on the shelf.
Jun 2 - 10:28 PM

Marco Estrada allowed three runs (two earned) in six innings of work Tuesday as the Blue Jays beat the Nationals.

Estrada had a tough task with opposing starter Max Scherzer on the hill as well, but he held the Nationals to six hits and a pair of walks while striking out five. Both earned runs scored in the fourth inning. The unearned run was Estrada's fault as he made a throwing error in the fifth. Over six starts, he has a 4.67 ERA and a 27/11 K/BB ratio spanning 34 2/3 innings. Estrada will take on the Marlins in a home start next.
