Kyle Lohse will start Thursday's Cactus League opener against the Angels.

Mike Fiers will start Wednesday when the Brewers take on the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and Matt Garza will start Friday against the Dodgers. Lohse, 36, is coming off of another strong season. He finished 2014 with a 3.54 ERA and a 141/45 K/BB ratio in 198 1/3 innings. Lohse should provide decent late-round value in fantasy leagues again.

Derek Holland (shoulder) could throw a bullpen as soon as Thursday.

Holland will long toss over the next few days, which will provide a better gauge of where he's at. The left-hander was a recent scratch in an intrasquad game as a result of discomfort in his left shoulder. Holland is hoping to pick up where he left off last September after a long road back from microfracture knee surgery in January. In 37 innings, the 28-year-old posted a 1.46 ERA with a 25/5 K/BB ratio.
Mar 3 - 11:09 AM

Jerome Williams will start in the Phillies' Grapefruit League opener Tuesday against the Yankees.

Others scheduled to pitch include David Buchanan, Joely Rodriguez, Jeanmar Gomez, Mario Hollands, Sean O'Sullivan, and Luis Garcia. The Phillies re-signed Williams to a one-year deal worth $2.5 million following a successful two-month stint with the club at the end of last season. In 57 1/3 innings, the right-hander posted a 2.83 ERA with a 38/17 K/BB ratio. Williams likely will be traded at some point during the season.
Mar 3 - 10:40 AM

Brewers re-signed RHP Francisco Rodriguez to a two-year, $13 million contract.

The deal, which includes a $6 million club option for 2017, is now official after being reported last week, as Rodriguez has been added to the 40-man roster. The Brewers outrighted RHP Brooks Hall to Triple-A Colorado Springs to make room for him. Rodriguez will be back in the closer's role for the Brewers after posting a 3.04 ERA with 44 saves and a 73/18 K/BB ratio in 68 innings last season.
Mar 3 - 10:33 AM

Brewers sent RHP Brooks Hall outright to Triple-A Colorado Springs.

The move opens up a spot on the 40-man roster to add reliever Francisco Rodriguez. Hall, 24, compiled a 2.77 ERA with a 16/7 K/BB ratio in 26 innings at Double-A Huntsville in 2014. He missed most of the season due to bone spurs in his right elbow.
Mar 3 - 10:27 AM

Mets general manager Sandy Alderson said "it's fair to say" that the Mets have had little to no trade talk involving Dillon Gee.

A recent rumor indicated that the Rangers were considering Gee. The right-hander has been pushed out of the Mets' starting rotation with the return of Matt Harvey, so he'll operate as a swingman, pitching initially out of the bullpen. Gee, who can become a free agent after the 2016 season, should continue to find his name in trade rumors throughout the season.

James Paxton (forearm) will long toss on Tuesday and reportedly feels fantastic, according to Ryan Divish of the Seattle Times.

Paxton, who injured his forearms in an awkward fall during an agility drill in February, is being used cautiously by the Mariners. He could throw a bullpen on Friday, which will allow the Mariners to get a better feel for where he's at. Paxton believes he has plenty of time to get ready for the regular season. The lefty impressed in 13 starts last season, posting a 3.04 ERA with a 59/29 K/BB ratio in 74 innings.
Mar 3 - 10:20 AM

Elvis Andrus (knee) will not play in Wednesday's Cactus League opener against the Royals.

Andrus doesn't believe his knee issue to be serious, so he should get into the Rangers' lineup soon. The shortstop has put up mediocre numbers in each of the last two seasons, sporting a sub-.660 OPS. After stealing 42 bases in 2013, he stole only 27 bags last season while leading the league, having been caught stealing 15 times.
