Jake Westbrook (elbow) will seek a second opinion next week, likely from Dr. James Andrews.

It's certainly not good news after Westbrook claimed to feel fine after playing catch on Friday. He had cut a previous bullpen session short earlier in the week due to discomfort, so there's definitely something amiss with the elbow. The Cardinals were originally hopeful he would miss the minimum 15 days, but at this point there isn't even a timetable for his return.
May 25 - 6:23 PM

Chris Carpenter (shoulder, neck) did not feel good after his latest bullpen session so the Cardinals are backing him off his current throwing program.

Carpenter was scheduled to face live hitters for the first time on Tuesday, but that's not going to happen anymore. The 38-year-old right-hander will continue throwing long toss and bullpen sessions until he feels like he's truly ready to take the next step. He has made just three starts since the start of the 2012 season (not including the playoffs) due to nerve irritation in his neck and shoulder.
May 25 - 6:00 PM

Dustin Pedroia had a go-ahead RBI double in Saturday's 7-4 win over the Indians.

It was part of a four-run eighth inning for Boston. Pedroia just missed his third home run of the season with the double, as it bounced off the top of the Green Monster, but it's hard for fantasy owners to complain. He's hitting .337 with 25 RBI, eight stolen bases and 35 runs scored through 50 games.
May 25 - 5:37 PM

Andrew Bailey notched a save Saturday for the first time since coming off the disabled list.

Bailey allowed a solo homer Wednesday in his first appearance since his biceps injury, but he was able to work around a leadoff single by Michael Bourn on Saturday for his eighth save of the season. Red Sox manager John Farrell doesn't plan to use Bailey on back-to-back days for the time being, so Koji Uehara and Junichi Tazawa shouldn't be dropped in deeper mixed formats.
May 25 - 5:36 PM

Jon Lester gave up four runs over seven innings in a no-decision against the Indians on Saturday.

Lester struck out eight and gave up a season-high 10 hits. He had a chance to get out of a jam in the top of the seventh inning, but threw a wild pitch with two outs to allow the go-ahead run to score. Fortunately for him, the Red Sox got him off the hook by scoring four runs in the bottom of the eighth. Lester will carry a fine 3.34 ERA into an interleague matchup against the Phillies next week.
May 25 - 5:35 PM

Scott Kazmir yielded two runs in five innings Saturday in a no-decision against the Red Sox.

He struck out six. It was a decent bounce-back outing from Kazmir, who was touched up for nine runs in eight innings over his previous two starts. Still, he had to dance around baserunners for most of the afternoon, as he allowed five hits and walked a season-high four batters. Kazmir now owns a 5.94 ERA across seven starts this season and will have a tough test against the Reds next week.
May 25 - 5:34 PM

Asdrubal Cabrera went 3-for-5 with an RBI double, two stolen bases and a run scored Saturday against the Red Sox.

Cabrera has three multi-hit games in his last four, pulling his batting average up from .239 to .263. The 27-year-old has been underwhelming so far this season, but he's currently on pace to reach double-digits in home runs and stolen bases.
May 25 - 5:32 PM

Royals purchased the contract of C Adam Moore from Triple-A Omaha.

Moore will provide depth at catcher while Salvador Perez heads home to mourn the death of his grandmother. Moore will likely be sent back to Triple-A in 3-4 days.
