According to Tim Twentyman of the Lions' website, the team would "prefer a couple options" at running back instead of using one back to carry the load.

Theo Riddick is a passing-down back only, while Joique Bell is going on age 29 and coming off multiple surgeries. Twentyman believes the Lions will use a draft pick at tailback and prioritize adding speed. Riddick's forty time is 4.66. Bell's is 4.68, and current third-stringer George Winn runs 4.65. Indiana's Tevin Coleman would be a blur on the fast track at Ford Field.

The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports "at least" two teams are trying to sign free agent Josh McCown.

We know the Browns and Bills form the "at least," with Buffalo seemingly the most aggressive. McCown has also met with the Bears and Jets. It's possible there's a mystery team in the fold. The Associated Press reported earlier Thursday that the Bills were engaged in ongoing talks with McCown's rep. He should have a new home shortly.

Lancaster, Tex. police say they have no video of the July 2011 incident involving Dez Bryant in a Walmart parking lot.

Police had already said they were summoned but made no arrests. Now we know they don't have the supposed smoking-gun video that's been the subject of innuendo and Twitter hysteria over the past 48 hours. The episode should begin fading from memory.

Free agent RB Steven Jackson has no plans to retire.

"Make no mistake: I can still punish a defense," Jackson said in a statement. "There are 1,000-yard seasons left in these legs." While speaking well of the Falcons, S-Jax intimated his 2013-14 struggles were due in part to the fact that he wasn't given enough opportunities to wear defenses down with big workloads. Jackson was actually one of the league's best backs after first contact in 2014, but his game has noticeably lacked juice for some time now. As a free agent, Jackson will try to match the $1.2 million guaranteed Maurice Jones-Drew got last spring.

Raiders released S Tyvon Branch.

Branch had a $1 million roster bonus due on March 12. The move clears $3 million in cap space. Signed to a four-year, $26.6 million extension in July 2012, Branch had appeared in just five games over the past two seasons due to injury. A broken foot cost him all but three games in 2014, while fibula/ankle issues sidelined him in 2013. Going on 29, Branch was one of the league's top in-the-box safeties before injuries started wrecking his game. He'll get the benefit of the doubt in free agency if he can prove he's healthy.

ESPN's Adam Caplan reports free agent TE James Casey will visit the Bengals, Redskins and Jaguars.

Casey visited the Broncos on Thursday, and has also been linked to the Titans, Browns and Cardinals. With so many teams kicking the tires, Casey should have a new deal by this time next week.

"Several league sources" tell the Cleveland Plain Dealer that free agent CB Buster Skrine will be "highly sought after."

Skrine has maintained an open dialogue with the Browns, but is expected to reach free agency. Capable of manning both the slot and perimeter, Skrine is one of the highlights of an unappetizing corner market. Ideally, Skrine would remain in the slot, but he's still only 26 (in April). His game is projectable.

Dolphins executive VP Mike Tannenbaum confirms the team would like to re-sign free agent Charles Clay.

Tannenbaum said the same for free agent DT Jared Odrick. "Charles is a homegrown talent," Tannenbaum said. "He checks every box." The Miami Herald has previously reported the Dolphins have "cautious optimism" they'll get Clay back under contract. He's expected to command in the neighborhood of $6 million annually. Clay has averaged 64 catches over the past two seasons.
