Red Sox optioned RHP Pat Light to Triple-A Pawtucket.

The 25-year-old right-hander appeared in just one game out of the Red Sox bullpen, surrendering two runs on two hits in his lone inning of work. He'll bide his time at Triple-A until he's needed again later in the season.

According to Pedro Martinez, Eduardo Rodriguez is just starting to build up his leg strength, and as a result could potentially need up to three more minor league rehab starts before he rejoins the Red Sox.

Rodriguez struggled in his first rehab start with Triple-A Pawtucket on Thursday, surrendering three runs on six hits and three walks in 3 2/3 innings. Henry Owens will continue to occupy a spot in the Red Sox rotation until Rodriguez is deemed ready.

Yonder Alonso hit a three-run homer off Pat Neshek in the bottom of the ninth to give the A's a 7-4 win over the Astros on Friday.

The Astros took a 4-2 lead in the sixth in this one, only to give up two runs in the eighth and Alonso's three-run bomb in the ninth. It was Alonso's first homer of the year, and it doubled his season RBI total. He entered the night with a .154/.203/.185 line in 65 at-bats.
Apr 30 - 1:44 AM

Sean Manaea yielded four runs in five-plus innings against the Astros in his major league debut Friday.

It was one run through five innings, but then Manaea hit a batter, walked one and gave up an RBI single to open the sixth. He was lifted, and both inherited runners came around to score off Sean Doolittle. Manaea is expected to remain in the rotation, and he remains an intriguing option in mixed leagues. He'll get the Mariners on Wednesday.

Mike Fiers pitched seven innings of two-run ball Friday against the Athletics.

Fiers has pitched quite well his last two times out, lowering his ERA from 6.48 to 4.97. It should be good enough to help him stay in the rotation following Lance McCullers' return from the DL.
Apr 30 - 1:39 AM

Evan Gattis went 2-for-4 and popped his first homer of the year Friday against the A's.

Gattis needs to get it going if he wants to play against righties, and this is a nice first step for him, though the homer came off a lefty. Gattis is hitting .256 with four doubles and a 15/1 K/BB ratio in 43 at-bats since coming off the DL.
Apr 30 - 1:38 AM

Matt Kemp went 2-for-4 and hit a tie-breaking three-run homer in the eighth to help the Padres beat the Dodgers 5-1 on Friday.

It has to be particularly sweet for him when Kemp leads the Padres past his former team. His tiebreaking homer came off Chris Hatcher tonight, and the Padres went on to add an insurance run in the ninth. Kemp has seven homers and 18 RBI in 22 games.
Apr 30 - 1:36 AM

Cesar Vargas tossed 5 1/3 scoreless innings versus the Dodgers in a no-decision Friday.

Vargas allowed four hits, walked three and struck out six. He figured to be a stopgap in the Padres' rotation when he was called up last week, but with two strong outings against quality offenses (he allowed one run over five innings against the Cardinals in his debut), he figures to get a chance to stick around. He's not recommended outside of NL-only leagues.
