Tigers SS prospect JaCoby Jones smashed three homers Sunday in a win for Double-A Erie.

Sunday was only his sixth game since making the leap to Double-A. So far, Jones has gone 9-for-22 with eight RBI. Previously, the 23-year-old had hit .253 with 10 blasts in 93 contests for High-A Bradenton. Detroit acquired Jones at the trade deadline for reliever Joakim Soria.

White Sox recalled OF Trayce Thompson from Triple-A Charlotte.

Thompson has produced 13 home runs and 11 stolen bases in 104 games this season at the Triple-A level, though it's come with a .260 batting average and .304 on-base clip. He probably won't carry much value in standard mixed fantasy leagues. The 24-year-old outfielder is the brother of Golden State Warriors guard Klay Thompson.

According to Chris Cotillo of MLB Daily Dish, right-hander Brandon Beachy has cleared waivers.

Beachy got designated for assignment by the Dodgers on July 30 in the aftermath of the club's 13-player trade with the Braves and Marlins. Beachy allowed seven earned runs in eight innings (two starts) for Los Angeles. He hasn't shown much coming off his second career Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery, but there should be some team out there willing to take a chance.

Charlie Furbush (biceps) threw 33 fastballs in a successful bullpen workout Sunday.

Furbush should be cleared for a minor league rehab assignment after one more side session. He has been on the disabled list since early July with tendinitis in his left biceps. The 29-year-old southpaw was having an exceptional season before the injury.

Robinson Cano (abdomen) expects to be in the Mariners' starting lineup Monday at Colorado.

Cano was limited to designated hitter duties on Saturday and Sunday against the Twins due to a Grade 1 abdominal strain. He'll have to return to second base Monday as the M's open a three-game series in a National League park.

Roberto Osuna is likely to get a day off Monday.

Osuna allowed a solo homer in a successful save appearance Sunday afternoon against the Royals -- his third outing in four games. Aaron Sanchez could get a look in his place as the Jays celebrate Simcoe Day with a Monday matinee. Osuna, 20, boasts a 2.27 ERA and 53/11 K/BB ratio in 47 2/3 innings this season and he is 7-for-8 in save chances.
Aug 3 - 11:48 AM

Drew Smyly (shoulder) is scheduled to make his third rehab start Wednesday with Triple-A Durham.

Smyly has been hit hard in his first rehab two outings at Triple-A, allowing four runs in 2 1/3 innings on July 26 and five runs in 3 1/3 innings on July 31. He'll try to begin showing better results this week with an eye on a mid-August return to the Rays' starting rotation. Smyly has been out since early May.

Joe Mauer is not in the Twins' starting lineup on Monday afternoon against the Blue Jays.

Mauer gets a day off with the Twins taking on new Blue Jays left-hander David Price. Trevor Plouffe is starting at first base and batting third at Toronto's Rogers Centre. Eduardo Nunez is handling the hot corner.
