John Gambadoro of Arizona Sports 98.7 reports the Diamondbacks have traded Gerardo Parra to the Brewers.

ESPN's Jerry Crasnick says that outfield prospect Mitch Haniger, a supplemental first-round pick from 2012, is headed to Arizona in return. The Diamondbacks will also get left-hander Anthony Banda, a 10th-round pick from 2012. Parra hasn't hit very well this season, but he's a very good defensive outfielder.

Athletics designated INF/OF Jake Elmore for assignment.

It's likely Elmore didn't realize, while looking at the Jon Lester and Jonny Gomes for Yoenis Cespedes trade, that his 40-man spot was needed to accommodate the extra big leaguer. Elmore was claimed off waivers by the White Sox from the Astros over the winter, and then dealt to Oakland for cash, so it's possible a team looking for a young utility player will place a claim.

The Reds have dangled Mat Latos in trade discussions, reports ESPN's Jayson Stark.

Cincinnati isn't buying this season, and they may decide to sell -- perhaps even their ace. Reds general manager Walt Jocketty has seen the attractive packages front-line starters Jeff Samardzija and Jon Lester have garnered and may want in on the action. Latos has a 3.31 ERA in eight starts this year after missing the first two and a half months with injury.

The Athletics are getting "flooded" with calls on Jason Hammel, according to FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal.

"Weren’t planning to trade him, but..." Rosenthal tweeted. Billy Beane is going all in on this season, so you'd expect him to only consider a Hammel package that brought back immediate help -- perhaps a bat to slot at designated hitter, or another outfielder to cover for Yoenis Cespedes' move to Boston or Coco Crisp's nagging neck injury? Either way, Beane has the luxury of listening with Jon Lester, Jeff Samardzija, Sonny Gray, Scott Kazmir and Jesse Chavez forming an outstanding rotation, even without Hammel.

Joel Sherman of the New York Post is hearing from sources that the Rays are "definitely moving" David Price.

That echoes a similar report from FOX Sports' Jon Morosi. Tampa Bay has moved into better position for a playoff spot with its strong recent play, but it's probably wise from a bigger-picture perspective to maximize Price's trade value this summer. Look for big news soon. The Dodgers and Mariners are among the teams with known interest.

FOX Sports' Jon Morosi reports that Giants and Rangers are discussing an Alex Rios swap.

The Rangers are amenable to picking up a portion of what remains of the outfielder's $12.5 million salary this season, and Rios' contract includes a reasonable $13.5 million club option for 2015. Rios is slashing a respectable .304/.335/.430 and would represent a nice fit for AT&T Park with his gap power and speed.

Cardinals acquired RHP John Lackey and LHP Corey Littrell from the Red Sox for RHP Joe Kelly and OF Allen Craig.

It's another exciting blockbuster trade on an active 2014 deadline day. Lackey has posted a strong 3.60 ERA, 1.23 WHIP, and 116/32 K/BB ratio in 137 1/3 innings this season for Boston and should be even better with the move to the National League. He holds a bargain $500,000 club option for the 2015 season as a result of his 2012 Tommy John surgery. The Cardinals gave up two big major league pieces in Kelly and Craig, but they're both having disappointing years.
Jul 31 - 1:20 PM

The Tigers are "making a big push" for Andrew Miller, according to ESPN's Jerry Crasnick.

Detroit, which acquired Joakim Soria from the Rangers last week, would like to upgrade its supply of left-handed relievers, which currently counts Ian Krol, Phil Coke and Blaine Hardy amongst its ranks. Miller would be a godsend. He's posted a 2.34 ERA and 69/13 K/BB ratio over 42 1/3 innings this year and is arguably the top available left-hander out there.
