White Sox manager Robin Ventura confirmed the team is leaning toward having Carlos Rodon (wrist) start Sunday against the Twins.

Rodon made it through Monday's rehab outing without issue and is slated to throw a side session on Friday. He sprained his left wrist prior to the All-Star break. The former No. 3 overall pick has seen mixed results this year with just two wins and a 4.50 ERA over 16 outings.

Diamondbacks optioned INF/OF Michael Freeman to Triple-A Reno.

A corresponding move hasn't been announced yet but David Peralta (back) is expected to come off the disabled list on Friday. Freeman was hitless with five strikeouts in nine at-bats during his brief stint in Arizona. The 28-year-old could be back when rosters expand in September.

Giants designated INF Grant Green for assignment.

Green spent about a month in San Francisco, hitting .261 with one homer and seven RBI while filling in for Joe Panik at second base. The 28-year-old will head to Triple-A Sacramento if he clears waivers.

Giants activated 2B Joe Panik from the 7-day disabled list.

He's back after missing a month with a concussion. Panik will start at second base and bat third Thursday against Washington. Grant Green, who filled in at second during Panik's absence, has been designated for assignment. Panik carries a .256 average over 273 at-bats this season.

Jake Lamb (hand) returned as a pinch-hitter Thursday against the Brewers.

Lamb went 0-for-2 and even played a couple innings at third base. He should be back in the starting nine for Friday's series opener against the Dodgers. Lamb had missed the team's previous two games with a bruised left hand.

Jaime Garcia will start on short rest Saturday against the Marlins.

He'll be pitching on four days rest instead of his usual five following Tuesday's doubleheader. Manager Mike Matheny considered having Tyler Lyons make a spot start but went with Garcia instead. Jerome Williams will be available in long relief if Matheny has Garcia on a short leash.
Jul 28 - 5:52 PM

Lance Lynn (elbow) has thrown seven live batting practices.

He's hoping to appear in a minor league game by the end of next month. Obviously Lynn hasn't given up on pitching again this season, though we're guessing the Cardinals will play it safe and hold him out until spring training. Lynn is about nine months removed from Tommy John surgery.

Royals recalled RHP Brooks Pounders from Triple-A Omaha.

He'll take the roster spot vacated by Luke Hochevar, who was placed on the disabled list with symptoms of thoracic outlet syndrome. Pounders made a pit stop in Kansas City when Wade Davis was hurt earlier this month, logging a 13.50 ERA over three outings. He'll probably be reserved for lower leverage situations.
