Craig Stammen was lit up for five runs and eight hits in 1 2/3 innings out of the pen by the Braves on Friday.

Stammen had some July and September struggles last year, so it'd be nice to see him get off to a strong start. The Nationals should have more need of him this season with Rafael Soriano and Tyler Clippard gone, though they could always start turning to younger arms if he falters.
Mar 6 - 5:52 PM

Juan Jaime walked three and gave up four runs in two-thirds of an inning Friday against the Nationals.

Jaime is 27 and entering his third year on the Braves' 40-man roster, but it doesn't look like the team is ready to count on him as a bullpen piece. He has one of the strongest arms in the league, but he walked 45 in 53 1/3 innings between Triple-A and the majors last year. We're not very optimistic that he'll ever be of much use.

Freddie Freeman homered, doubled and knocked in three runs versus the Nationals in Friday's loss.

We wonder just how many pitches Freeman will get to hit once the games start to count, what with the rest of the Braves lineup looking so inept. He did get some help today, as the Braves scored eight runs on 14 hits. Unfortunately, the club lost anyway.
Mar 6 - 5:44 PM

Pedro Ciriaco went 3-for-4 with a homer, a double and three RBI against the Nationals on Friday.

Ciriaco is in the running for a spot on the Braves bench, though it won't help matters that he's not on the 40-man. The Braves are already looking at adding Eric Young Jr., at least one pitcher and maybe Kelly Johnson to a 40-man that currently stands at 39, so they might prefer to carry Jace Peterson, who is already on the roster.

Matt Reynolds hit a walkoff homer off Joe Mantiply to give the Mets a 5-4 win over the Tigers on Friday.

Reynolds is a possibility to step in at shortstop for the Mets this summer if Wilmer Flores falters. He's not really a top prospect, but he's steady enough offensively and defensively to put together a career in the majors.
Mar 6 - 5:28 PM

Blue Jays manager John Gibbons said Friday that Jose Bautista's right hamstring injury is minor.

Bautista had to be scratched from Friday's Grapefruit League game, but it sounds like it's no big deal. "His hammy tightened up on him a little bit," Gibbons said. "He’ll be fine." Expect Bautista back in action soon.
Mar 6 - 5:28 PM

Noah Syndergaard allowed two runs in two innings of relief Friday against the Tigers.

Syndergaard looked very good in his first inning after picking up for Matt Harvey, but he was equally shaky in the second, and he ended up throwing 44 pitches on the day, an abnormally high total for a pitcher's first appearance of the spring. Syndergaard has absolutely no chance of making the Mets this spring, but he does want to impress and stay ahead of some of the other options to be potentially called on as injury replacements this summer.
Mar 6 - 5:26 PM

David Price pitched two hitless innings and struck out two Friday against the Mets.

While it was Matt Harvey everyone came to see, Price looked plenty good, too. He told the Free Press's Anthony Fenech that he's trying a new grip on his curveball, which was taught to him by fellow Vanderbilt product Sonny Gray.
