Seventh-round RB Dwayne Washington is expected to make the Lions' 53-man roster.

Washington's odds got a huge boost when the Lions cut Stevan Ridley loose. "I’ve been impressed with some of the things he’s done," OC Jim Bob Cooter said. "When the guy gets the ball, he does impressive things." Washington figures to open the year behind Zach Zenner for No. 3 duties, but is an elite athlete. He has eight carries for 34 yards through two preseason games.

WGR 550 Buffalo reports five teams have expressed interest in free agent Karlos Williams.

That includes the Jets, who Williams visited on Wednesday. "X number of teams are interested" reports are often agent driven. Only the Jets have been confirmed.

The Patriots have reinstated suspended DT Alan Branch.

Branch's team-imposed ban lasted one week. A reason was never provided. With his relationship with the team apparently shaky, Branch could be a candidate for release, but it's unlikely as the Pats scramble for D-line depth. Branch was a valuable run stuffer in 2015.

Adrian Peterson will sit out the Vikings' final two preseason games.

Peterson hasn't notched a preseason carry since his 2011 knee injury. With the Vikings looking to get him the rock 20 times per game in his age-31 campaign, Peterson remains an elite RB1.

Jets coach Todd Bowles admits RT Breno Giacomini (back, PUP) might not be ready for Week 1.

Bowles said the team may have to add a veteran free agent. The market is obviously barren, with Will Beatty the top option. "Retired" Eugene Monroe is also available.

Steelers TE Ladarius Green (ankle, headaches) is "holding out hope" he'll be ready for Week 1, but acknowledges his rehab has gone "very slow."

It's still unclear what Green is even "rehabbing." He's adopted the team's party line that he's not dealing with headaches, but his own agent has said it's not his ankle. It's a ridiculously-muddled situation, one that makes Green a no-go as anything other than a risk/reward TE2.

MMQB's Albert Breer reports the Cowboys had "some concern" when Ezekiel Elliott reported to training camp at 231 pounds before pulling his hamstring.

231 is only six pounds heavier than Elliott's 225-pound Combine weigh-in, but it still wasn't ideal. Breer also said Zeke "worked off some of that weight" before suffering the injury. "As a player, I loved him to death," one NFL scout told Breer. "He’s the highest graded back I’ve ever done. He does everything well—running, catching, pass pro. But as far as going to Dallas, the bright lights, big city, I’ve always thought it could be tough for him. He likes football. He also likes everything that goes along with being a star." Elliott could silence some of his critics by turning in a big preseason game Thursday night against the Seahawks.

ESPN's Ed Werder reports J.J. Watt (back, PUP) is not expected to resume practicing next week.

Werder also reports the Texans remain "hopeful" on LT Duane Brown (quad). Both reports directly contradict NFL.com's Ian Rapoport's Thursday reporting. Watt himself has hinted he will be back next week. We'll have to wait this one out.
