Hunter Renfroe went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored in Thursday's win over the Mets.

Renfroe is having a strong four-game stretch, going 8-for-16 with four doubles, a homer, two RBI and four runs scored in that span. It was a much-needed stretch for the 25-year-old, who was hitting just .205 at the outset of the four games. Renfroe is batting .232/.288/.446 with nine homers through 48 games overall.

Rafael Montero struggled in three innings of work Thursday, allowing three runs on five hits in a loss to the Padres.

Montero also walked three while striking out four. Anyone looking at the final score might not expect that the Mets' starter was so bad -- in relief of Montero, the Mets bullpen allowed just one run over the next six innings to hold it to a 4-3 game. He's now struggled in two of three starts on the year, and Montero has failed to get out of the fourth inning in any of them. That's what an 8.24 ERA and 2.54 WHIP look like, but unfortunately for the Mets, it's not like they're flush with better options right now. Still, they can probably do better than the 26-year-old their next time out.

Brad Hand allowed a run but secured his second save of the season Thursday against the Mets.

The same day Padres manager Andy Green was noncommittal about Hand's role, he pitched the ninth for a second straight game. Hand has been stellar this year, posting a 2.00 ERA and 1.04 WHIP with a 35/11 K/BB ratio over 27 innings. San Diego Union-Tribune writer Dennis Lin has said Hand is drawing trade interest, but while he's on the Padres, he's the reliever to own, it seems.

Dustin Pedroia left Thursday's game against the Rangers with left knee soreness.

Josh Rutledge replaced Pedroia at second base to begin the sixth inning. The Red Sox said his removal was "precautionary" while beat writer Pete Abraham of the Boston Globe noted that Pedroia pleaded to stay in the game. He went 0-for-2 with a walk before exiting. This is the same knee that Pedroia injured earlier this year when Manny Machado slid into him at second base.

John Wagner of the Toledo Blade reports John Hicks will be called up from Triple-A Toledo for Friday's doubleheader against the White Sox.

Teams are allowed to carry an extra player for doubleheaders but the Tigers are already bringing up Buck Farmer to start Game 1. That means a roster move must be coming. James McCann left Thursday night's game with a hand laceration and could be headed to the disabled list. This will be Hicks' third stint with the Tigers this year.
May 25 - 10:00 PM

Ryan Braun left Thursday's game against the Diamondbacks with left calf tightness.

It's the same injury that put Braun on the disabled list earlier this month. Jesus Aguilar pinch-hit for Braun in the fourth inning and stayed in to play first base while Eric Thames shifted to left field. Braun fouled out in his only at-bat before exiting.
May 25 - 9:51 PM

James McCann left Thursday's game against the Astros with a left hand laceration.

McCann's hand was bleeding badly after he got hit by a pitch from Mike Fiers in the fourth inning. Alex Avila pinch-ran for him and also replaced McCann behind the plate. He went 0-for-1 before exiting.
May 25 - 9:35 PM

Dodgers placed LHP Luis Avilan on the 10-day disabled list with left triceps soreness.

His roster spot will be absorbed by left-hander Adam Liberatore. Avilan leads the Dodgers with six holds but sports a lethargic 1.53 WHIP over 15 innings of work. He's the 20th Dodger to be placed on the DL this year.
