Lucas Duda singled in a run and launched a two-run homer in Wednesday's win over the Phillies.

That gives Duda seven longballs this month and five over his last eight games. The 28-year-old is hitting just .262 for the season, but it's come along with a .358 OBP, 19 homers and 60 RBI. He's currently on pace for a 29-homer, 90-RBI campaign.

Tanner Roark delivered seven innings of one-run ball Wednesday in the Nationals' 4-3 defeat of the Marlins.

It was another terrific outing from the 27-year-old right-hander, who is now 11-6 on the season with a 2.74 ERA and 1.08 WHIP. Roark allowed only three Miami hits and two walks while striking out seven. Drew Storen nearly blew it in the ninth inning -- yielding two runs on a walk and three hits -- but he managed to close it out for his first save of the season. Roark will face the Orioles at home next.

ESPN's Jayson Stark reports that the Mariners are "out" on Marlon Byrd.

Stark says there are "still some legs to rumblings" that the Yankees could go after Byrd, but they're wary of the outfielder's 2016 vesting option. The Royals had also previously been reported as a possible landing spot but no longer appear in the running. The market for the veteran outfield looks to be drying up.

Yovani Gallardo yielded just three hits over seven scoreless frames in Wednesday's 5-0 victory over the Rays.

Gallardo gave up just three singles, walked one and struck out five. Though he's dealt with his bouts of inconsistency, the right-hander has tossed 14 2/3 scoreless innings over his last two outings. He'll take a nifty 3.38 ERA into a home start against the Giants next week.
Jul 30 - 3:57 PM

Making what could be his final start for the Rays, David Price was charged with four runs -- three earned -- over seven frames in a loss to the Brewers.

Price had a 1-2-3 first inning but surrendered a bases-loaded, two-RBI single to Martin Maldonado in the second and as it turned out that's all the runs Milwaukee needed. The left-hander permitted six hits and two walks while striking out six. Assuming he's not traded before then, Price will take a 3.11 ERA into next week's start in Oakland.

Eric Chavez has retired from baseball.

Chavez has battled a nagging knee issue this season and the 36-year-old has decided to hang it up rather than continue rehabbing. He won six Gold Gloves and was one of the better players in the AL during the early 2000s. Injuries wrecked a big chunk of his career, but he deserves credit for making it back to be a useful player for a few years before the injury bug ultimately did him in. "I'm very lucky," Chavez said Tuesday. "I just enjoyed competing and being on the field. There's nothing like winning at the major-league level."

Wade Miley threw 6 2/3 scoreless innings Wednesday in the Diamondbacks' 5-4 win over the Reds.

Miley surrendered seven hits and walked four, but he was able to work out of multiple threats against the struggling Cincinnati offense despite recording only one strikeout. The left-hander moved to 7-7 on the season with a 4.14 ERA and 1.28 WHIP. Arizona has told teams that Miley is not available for trade, so his next start will be Tuesday against the Royals.
Jul 30 - 3:45 PM

Addison Reed allowed a three-run homer but was able to convert his 26th save Wednesday versus the Reds.

Eury De La Rosa gave up a leadoff single and a one-out walk in the bottom of the ninth inning before the D'Backs turned the keys over to their closer. Reed then yielded a two-out three-run shot to Devin Mesoraco but rallied to fan Ryan Ludwick for the final out. Reed, who has an underwhelming 3.95 ERA on the season, could be available at Thursday's July 31 trade deadline.
