Dillon Overton surrendered a solo home run to Ryan Rua in Saturday's Cactus League win over the Rangers.

Overton yakked up Rua's solo home run with two outs in the first inning, but settled in from that point on. He ended up pitching six innings, striking out three and scattering four hits over the course of his afternoon. The Mariners traded for the 25-year-old southpaw at the end of January. Given his minor league track record, Overton has deep sleeper appeal for AL-only formats, though opening the season in the majors is not a given.

Anibal Sanchez tossed six hitless, scoreless frames while striking out six batters but the Tigers still lost to the Pirates on Saturday.

He walked one batter and saw an error made behind him but was otherwise perfect. Sanchez was shelled in each of his first three games of the spring before making some mechanical adjustments. In three games since then he has been unscored upon. On March 9th his ERA was 17.47 and now it is down to 5.03 in 19 2/3 innings. He is battling Matt Boyd for the last rotation slot on the Tigers' staff. Sanchez turned in a rough 5.87 ERA with 135 strikeouts in 153 1/3 innings a year ago.

Nick Martinez pitched decently in Saturday's Cactus League game against the Mariners, surrendering two runs (one earned) on four hits over four innings.

Martinez coughed up a two-run double to Ben Gamel in the fourth inning, but was otherwise able to keep the Mariners at bay. He struck out six and walked one in the contest. While Saturday's outing was respectable enough, the 26-year-old right-hander has largely struggled this spring and looks to be on the outside of the Opening Day rotation at this juncture.
Mar 25 - 6:39 PM

Austin Meadows drilled a pinch-hit solo home run in a win over the Tigers on Saturday.

He was batting for Andrew McCutchen in the eighth inning when he took southpaw Kyle Ryan deep to provide the winning run. Meadows is batting .308 with two homers in 39 chances this spring. The 21-year-old top prospect is knocking on the door of the major leagues but it will likely take an injury or a trade involving one of the Pirates' stellar outfielders before he gets an opportunity.
Mar 25 - 6:32 PM

Tyler Glasnow gave up three runs -- two earned -- and punched out nine batters in four innings as the Pirates beat the Tigers 5-4 on Saturday.

Perhaps most importantly he walked only one batter. Glasnow has endured major difficulties with the base-on-balls in his young career but strikeouts have never been a problem. It remains to be seen whether he will head north as a member of the Pirates' starting rotation or will begin the season at Triple-A. The elite prospect registered a 1.87 ERA with 133 strikeouts in 110 2/3 innings at Triple-A last year.

Corey Dickerson went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Saturday's loss to the Red Sox.

It was his fourth homer of the spring. He owns a .367 batting average in 49 at-bats. He needs a strong Grapefruit League campaign to cement his role as an everyday player for the Rays. He hit .245/.293/.469 with 24 home runs and 70 RBI in 148 games in 2016.
Mar 25 - 6:17 PM

Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports the Rangers have "tabled" extension talks with Jonathan Lucroy.

Wilson also had nothing to report on talks with Yu Darvish. Without extensions, both players will hit the market next winter. The two-time All-Star hit .267 while splitting time with Buster Posey behind the plate for Team USA at the World Baseball Classic. He'll earn $5.25 million in the last year of his deal.
Mar 25 - 6:15 PM

Blake Snell was hit with four earned run in 4 2/3 innings during a loss to the Red Sox on Saturday.

He gave up six hits and one walk while fanning three. The big blow was a three-run jack by Pablo Sandoval. Snell has struggled this spring, limping along with a 6.16 ERA after 19 innings of work. As a rookie last year he put up a 3.54 ERA in 19 starts, logging 98 strikeouts and 51 walks in 89 innings. There is no quarantee he will start the season in the majors.
