Carlos Carrasco allowed one hit and walked a pair over three scoreless innings against the Cubs on Friday.

It was his first Cactus League appearance since he was shelled for eight runs over 1 2/3 innings against the White Sox back on March 13. He had some swelling in his elbow after that, but everything appears on track now. It’s unclear when he’ll make his first start during the regular season, but the Indians could delay his debut until they need a fifth starter on April 15. We should have a better idea about the schedule soon.

John Lackey gave up one run in six innings against the Indians on Friday.

Lackey held the Indians scoreless until Giovanny Urshela homered in his final inning of work. The veteran right-hander struck out five and walked one in his latest tune-up. He finds himself in line to start during the first series of the regular season against the Cardinals in St. Louis.

Jason Heyward went 1-for-3 with a single in Friday’s loss to the Indians in Cactus League action.

Much was made out of Heyward’s revamped swing this spring, but even after getting a hit on Friday, he’s batting just .140 with 10 strikeouts and a .469 OPS over 43 at-bats during Cactus League action. It’s a frustrating situation for the Cubs, but fortunately fantasy owners can pass on him in drafts.

Seth Smith (hamstring) is scheduled to return to game action on Saturday.

It's unclear if it will be in Grapefruit League play or if he'll take at-bats in a minor league game, but the veteran outfielder is clearly making progress toward a return. He has been sidelined since March 8 due to a hamstring injury and has only had 11 at-bats this spring.
Mar 24 - 6:45 PM

A.J. Pollock (groin) went 0-for-2 with a walk in his return to Cactus League action on Friday.

Pollock played four innings in the field and didn't report any discomfort with his groin afterwards. Provided he can avoid any setbacks next week, he should be in the club's Opening Day lineup.

Indians returned LHP Hoby Milner to the Phillies.

Milner was selected with the No. 15 pick in the Rule 5 draft, but was unable to make the Tribe's Opening Day bullpen. The 26-year-old southpaw registered a 9.00 ERA and 1.71 WHIP over seven innings in Cactus League play.

Matt Boyd struck out five over five scoreless innings Friday as the Tigers edged the Braves 3-2 in 10 innings.

Anibal Sanchez has done well of late, but Boyd would seem to have the fifth spot in the Detroit rotation clinched after this. He's allowed a total of one run over 15 innings in his last three starts, and he still hasn't walked a batter in 21 2/3 innings for the spring. He's not one of our favorite AL-only sleepers, but if he can keep this whole never-walking-anyone-no-matter-what thing going, he'll have some value.
Mar 24 - 6:00 PM

Tyler Collins returned to action Friday and went 1-for-3 against the Braves.

Collins missed a few more days with his troublesome lat muscle. He was able to play center field today, which seems like a good sign. Still, it's been a rough spring for him while dealing with the injury -- he's hit just .211/.225/.342 in 38 at-bats -- and it remains to be seen what the Tigers will do with him. While he's not a particularly good platoon option in center field, he is out of options and the Tigers don't want to lose him.
