Tim Anderson is getting the night off Tuesday.

White Sox manager Rick Renteria told reporters that Anderson's legs have "been a little tired." The 24-year-old shortstop has seven home runs and 11 stolen bases in 44 games this season, but he's batting just .230/.291/.398. Jose Rondon will play short versus the Orioles.

Joe Panik took on-field batting practice Tuesday for the first time since landing on the disabled list April 28 with a torn UCL in his left thumb.

Panik told reporters afterward that he had no limitations with his swing and was able to grip the bat strongly and freely while poking balls to all parts of the field. The second baseman could be about a week away from beginning a minor league rehab assignment.

Jesus Aguilar is out of the Brewers' starting lineup on Tuesday night against the Diamondbacks.

Aguilar has been hitting the cover off the ball this month, but Brewers manager Craig Counsell said he wanted to give the 27-year-old a day of rest. Ji-Man Choi is starting at first base and batting second for the Brewers on Tuesday versus Arizona right-hander Matt Koch.

Nelson Cruz (elbow) remains out of the Mariners' starting lineup Tuesday against the Athletics.

Cruz took a pitch off his elbow on Saturday and hasn't played since, but the Mariners are optimistic the veteran slugger can avoid the disabled list. Daniel Vogelbach is starting at designated hitter and batting sixth Tuesday night against A's right-hander Trevor Cahill.

Mets optioned INF/OF Phillip Evans to Triple-A Las Vegas.

Evans went 1-for-8 with four strikeouts during his short stay with New York. This moves clears a 25-man roster spot for Jose Bautista, who has been signed to a one-year major league contract and will be available for Tuesday night's game against the Marlins.

Mets signed OF Jose Bautista to a one-year contract.

This came together quickly, as Bautista is already in New York and will be active for Tuesday night's game against the Marlins. He got a major league deal from the Mets despite batting .143/.250/.343 over 40 plate appearances on a minor league pact with the Braves. That just shows how desperate the Mets are for immediate right-handed corner outfield depth. We wouldn't expect the 37-year-old to carry any fantasy value in Queens.
May 22 - 5:55 PM

Mike Puma of the New York Post confirms that the Mets have reached a deal with Jose Bautista.

It'll presumably be a minor league contract with performance incentives built in. Bautista was released by the Braves on Sunday after batting just .143/.250/.343 in 40 plate appearances and struggling defensively at third base, but the 37-year-old can provide some much-needed immediate corner outfield depth for New York. The deal should be official soon.

Ryan Braun (back) went through a full pregame workout on Monday and will do the same Tuesday.

If everything continues to go smoothly, Braun could be activated from the 10-day disabled list when first eligible on Thursday. He's been out since May 14 with a middle-back injury. The veteran outfielder was batting .222/.268/.413 with five home runs and four stolen bases through 37 games this season.
