Cardinals RHP prospect Jake Woodford scattered five hits and two runs over seven innings Wednesday in a no-decision for Low-A Peoria.

He delivered a season-high nine strikeouts and didn't walk anyone. The seven-inning effort was his longest since May 24 when he logged eight scoreless frames in a win over Kane County. The 19-year-old has been one of the better hurlers in the Midwest League this season with 66 strikeouts and a 2.81 ERA. Despite his success, Woodford hasn't won a start since June 5 while being plagued with poor run support.

Brewers manager Craig Counsell said Jonathan Lucroy is getting a scheduled day of rest Thursday.

The trade buzz began swirling when Milwaukee's lineup card for Thursday afternoon's game against the Diamondbacks showed Martin Maldonado at catcher instead of Lucroy, but there's nothing to see here. Yet. Lucroy is reportedly drawing interest from the Rangers, Indians, Astros, Mets, and Red Sox, and will almost certainly be dealt before the August 1 deadline.

Trayce Thompson (back) began swinging off a tee on Wednesday.

And he said he's hoping to begin a minor league rehab assignment sometime next week. Thompson landed on the disabled list July 16, retroactive to July 11, with lower back irritation. He was slashing .225/.302/.436 with 13 homers and five stolen bases through 80 games this season for Los Angeles.

Astros OF prospect Kyle Tucker belted a solo home run Wednesday in a loss for Low-A Quad Cities.

The blast came off his former high school teammate Jake Woodford. It was Tucker's only hit of the night. The 2015 first-round pick hasn't hit for much power this year—Wednesday's round-tripper was only his third in 307 at-bats—but he's been a productive base stealer with 30 thefts on 36 attempts. That total is good for second-most in the Midwest League.

Marlins reinstated 2B Dee Gordon from suspension.

Gordon will return to the Marlins' starting lineup on Tuesday night against the Cardinals after missing the last 80 games while serving out a performance-enhancing suspension. He didn't hit the ball very well on his minor league rehab assignment, but the 28-year-old second baseman is obviously capable of having a huge fantasy impact down the stretch this season. Derek Dietrich will be shifted into more of a utility role.

Yankees OF prospect Blake Rutherford registered a career-high six hits Wednesday in a loss for Rookie-level Pulaski.

Rutherford's four base knocks weren't enough for the Yankees to steal a win against Elizabethton, but the 19-year-old did up his season average from .310 to .342. He's hit safely in eight of his last nine games with a .442 average during that stretch. The Yankees selected Rutherford with the 18th overall pick in last month's draft after a successful high school career at Chaminade Prep in California.

Marlins designated INF/OF Don Kelly for assignment.

The move clears a roster spot for Dee Gordon, who is back from his 80-game PED suspension. Kelly was batting just .148/.200/.296 in 30 plate appearances with Miami.

Mike Minor (shoulder) will begin a minor league rehab assignment Thursday with Triple-A Omaha.

It will be his first time pitching in a minor league game since May 30, when he had to shut down his rehab assignment because of rotator cuff fatigue. Minor missed the entire 2015 season with a torn labrum in his left shoulder and hasn't thrown a pitch at the major league level in 2016. Maybe he could become an option for the Royals in late August, but it's not something to count on.
