Red Sox optioned RHP Heath Hembree to Triple-A Pawtucket.
Hembree got lit up by the Twins on Saturday, continuing an ugly July. He still has a cool 2.41 ERA overall, however, and shouldn't be down for too long. Joe Kelly is probably going to replace him on Sunday.
Josh Tomlin was charged with four runs in six innings in a loss to the Orioles on Saturday.
He gave up seven hits, including two home runs. On the good side, he fanned eight batters without walking anybody. Tomlin has been sneaky good this year. His record falls to 10-3 with a 3.48 ERA. He has an 80/12 K/BB ratio in 113 2/3 innings.
Jarred Cosart will be called up from Triple-A to start Monday against the Phillies.
Wei-Yin Chen has been scratched with an undisclosed injury. Cosart owns a rough 7.98 ERA in 14 2/3 innings this season at the MLB level and hasn't been dominant at Triple-A. There are better fantasy streaming options.
Zach Britton came in to record the last out of the game and snared his 32nd save in the process.
The Orioles began the ninth inning with a five run lead and Brad Brach on the mound. After he gave up two runs they brought in Britton with two outs and a man on second. Britton retired Juan Uribe on a ground-out to end the game. Britton has been elite this year. He has a 0.65 ERA with 48 strikeouts in 41 2/3 innings.
Wei-Yin Chen has been scratched from his scheduled start Monday against the Phillies.
It's an injury, but there are no specifics yet. Look for an update Sunday morning. Jarred Cosart will be called up from Triple-A New Orleans to take the hill instead.
Christian Yelich kept hitting Saturday, finishing 3-for-4 with two runs scored in a win over the Mets.
Yelich now has three consecutive games of two or more hits and two runs scored, and he has multiple hits in 10 of 18 games this month. Saturday's game ran his hitting streak to a modest 10 games. Overall, the 24-year-old is hitting .326/.401/.501 with 10 homers, 54 RBI and 51 runs scored.
Mark Trumbo became the first player to reach 30 home runs this season with a two-run blast on Saturday.
Trumbo took Josh Tomlin deep in the first inning with Chris Davis aboard. It is the third time in his career that Trumbo has hit 30 or more homers, but the first since 2013 when he set his career high with 34. He has a good chance to reach 40 bombs this year.
Jacob deGrom allowed 10 hits and five runs over 3 2/3 innings in a loss to the Marlins on Saturday.
The start, both in hits allowed and runs given up, goes down as his worst in 17 starts this year. That speaks to how bad the 28-year-old was on Saturday but also to how good he's been this year, as deGrom is still 6-5 with a 2.73 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 103/24 K/BB ratio after the loss. DeGrom will look to get back on the horse Thursday against the Rockies.
