Angels optioned LHP Jose Alvarez to Triple-A Salt Lake.

Alvarez was up for less than a week and was unscored upon in two-thirds of an inning. He's being replaced in the bullpen by Josh Wall.
Apr 18 - 3:36 PM

Indians prospect RHP Adam Plutko allowed an unearned run on one hit and two walks in four innings on Thursday for Low-A Lake County.

The 22-year-old right-hander struck out a season-high eight batters in the outing. The Indians drafted Plutko in the 11th round last June out of UCLA, but held him back from making his professional after long and strenuous college season. Through his first three starts this year for Lake County, Plutko owns a 2.84 ERA and 17/5 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 12 2/3 innings. Even though he lacks a high ceiling, Plutko's deep arsenal and advanced command could make him a solid back-end starter for the Tribe in the next couple years.

Nick Castellanos is not in the Tigers' lineup Friday.

It appears to just be a day of rest, as Castellanos is in a 2-for-16 slide at the dish. Don Kelly is handling third base in his place.
Apr 18 - 3:33 PM

Matt Adams is not in the Cardinals' lineup Friday.

He's getting a breather against tough lefty Gio Gonzalez. Allen Craig is playing first base, with Shane Robinson handling right field. Kolten Wong is also sitting out, as Mark Ellis is at second base.

Tigers optioned OF Tyler Collins to Triple-A Toledo.

The Tigers have called up Justin Miller in his place, as they'll go with 13 pitchers for now. Collins had two hits in just 14 at-bats while up with the big club.
Apr 18 - 3:25 PM

Cardinals prospect OF Stephen Piscotty hit his first home run of the season Thursday for Triple-A Memphis.

The 23-year-old is off to a great start this year, batting .327/.377/.449 with four extra-base hits and nine RBI through his first 13 games for Memphis. Piscotty opened eyes during spring training and made a strong impression on the Cardinals' coaching staff. He's still behind Oscar Taveras on the team's outfield depth chart, but Piscotty's overall consistency and knack for hitting left-handed pitching could have him in the majors this season before his highly touted Memphis teammate.
Apr 18 - 3:23 PM

Yankees prospect OF Aaron Judge connected for his first professional home run on Thursday for Low-A Charleston.

He was 1-for-3 with two runs, two RBI and two walks in the game. Judge, 21, is 6-foot-7, 230 pounds and possesses robust raw power, so it is somewhat surprising it took him 13 games to get in the home-run column. The No. 32 overall pick in last year's draft didn't play after signing last summer due to an injury, so this season represents his first taste of pro ball. Judge has held his own so far, batting .298/.441/.362 with nine runs, seven RBI and a 12/12 strikeout-to-walk ratio. He's been especially hot as of late, batting .421 with six runs and all seven RBI during his current five-game hitting streak.
Apr 18 - 3:19 PM

Brandon Phillips left Friday's game against the Cubs with a possible back injury.

Phillips appeared to tweak his lower back on a swing in the first inning. He initially stayed in and even singled on the next pitch he saw, but Ramon Santiago took over for him at second base in the third inning. The Reds should update Phillips' status later Friday.
