Mariners recalled OF James Jones from Triple-A Tacoma.

The 26-year-old has appeared in seven games for the M's this season, going hitless in eight at-bats. He's likely only with the club as an extra bat for a few days until Hisashi Iwakuma returns from the disabled list on Monday.

Stephen Strasburg was forced to leave Saturday's start against the Giants with an apparent oblique injury.

Strasburg came back from the disabled list to throw a pair of gems last week, then hurled 3 2/3 scoreless frames against the Giants on Saturday before the injury bit him. It's unclear how serious the injury is, or how long he may be sidelined, but it's once again terrible news for the Nationals and fantasy owners alike, just as he was starting to roll. The Nats should have an update on his status shortly.

Colby Rasmus (illness) has returned to the Astros starting lineup on Saturday.

He's back in center field and batting sixth for the Astros on Saturday after missing a week of action due to an infection he sustained from a bug bite.
Jul 4 - 12:16 PM

Matt Kemp is not in the Padres starting lineup on Saturday.

It's nothing more than a routine day of rest for Kemp. Melvin Upton is getting the start in his place in center field and will bat leadoff for the Padres against Carlos Martinez and the Cardinals.
Jul 4 - 12:03 PM

Cardinals recalled RHP Mitch Harris from Triple-A Memphis.

The 29-year-old right-hander has appeared in 16 games already with the Cardinals this season, posting a 3.63 ERA, 1.85 WHIP and 9/10 K/BB ratio over 17 1/3 innings. He'll function in middle relief for the Cardinals.
Jul 4 - 11:47 AM

Cardinals optioned INF Greg Garcia to Triple-A Memphis.

The 25-year-old has impressed in his limited time with the Cardinals this season, slashing .417/.462/.750 with a homer in 12 at-bats. He'll continue to function as organizational infield depth and should get another opportunity with the Cardinals soon enough.
Jul 4 - 11:42 AM

Chris Carter is not in the Astros starting lineup for Saturday's matchup against the Red Sox.

He'll take a seat in favor of Jonathan Singleton, who has seen his playing time increase in recent days. The 28-year-old Carter is hitting just .197/.311/.405 on the season with 15 homers, 40 RBI and a league-leading 107 strikeouts in 269 at-bats.
Jul 4 - 11:38 AM

Royals released 1B Matt Fields.

The 29-year-old is an 11-year minor league veteran and has never made it to the big leagues. He was hitting just .244/.314/.395 with four homers and 25 RBI in 53 games at Triple-A Omaha this season.
