Michael Crabtree caught one pass for six yards in the Raiders' third preseason game.
Crabtree is reportedly having a strong camp, but he isn't doing much in preseason. Derek Carr slightly overthrew Crabtree on an end-zone fade late in the first half, but Crabtree didn't extend his body in an attempt to make a play, and Oakland settled for a field goal. Plays later, Crabtree dropped a Carr pass right in front of the end zone. Through three preseason affairs, Crabtree has three receptions for 21 yards. We're highly skeptical he'll make any noise in re-draft leagues this year.
Larry Fitzgerald caught two passes for 31 yards in the Cardinals' third preseason game.
Fitz made a nifty 26-yard catch on Arizona's second drive, beating Raiders top CB T.J. Carrie on the play. Carson Palmer threw the pass before Fitzgerald even broke into his route, a good sign for the duo's chemistry. While John Brown will give him a run for his money, Fitzgerald is the favorite to lead Arizona in targets this season. He's an underrated WR3 pick in the middle rounds.
John Brown caught one pass for 39 yards in the Cardinals' third preseason game.
Brown made a gorgeous play downfield early in the second quarter, going up and above Raiders CB Neiko Thorpe for a 39-yard gain to secure an underthrown pass from Carson Palmer. Palmer also targeted Brown deep in the second quarter, but narrowly overthrew him. Through three preseason contests, breakout candidate "Smokey" Brown has a receiving line of 5-85-1.
Derek Carr completed 18-of-34 passes for 213 yards and an interception in the Raiders' third preseason game.
He engineered nine drives in two-plus quarters, resulting in five Sebastian Janikowski field goals. Carr's biggest play in the first half came on a deep wheel route to FB Marcel Reece, gaining 42 yards down the sideline. On third-and-long later in the second quarter, Carr made a strong throw to Amari Cooper down the right sideline, exposing Patrick Peterson for a 36-yard hookup. An otherwise mediocre night was sullied when Carr got pick-sixed by Cardinals UDFA corner Cariel Brooks on Oakland's opening drive of the second half. That was Carr's final throw of Sunday's game. Carr is a low-end QB2 in fantasy leagues this season.
Trent Richardson managed zero yards on three carries in the Raiders' third preseason game.
After Richardson's night was done, the San Francisco Chronicle's Vic Tafur guessed T-Rich has toted the rock for his final time as a Raider. Through three preseason contests, Richardson has 23 yards on 13 carries (1.77 YPC). Tawain Jones, Roy Helu, and Marcel Reece all look like better options to back up Latavius Murray. T-Rich's one-year deal contains a $600,000 guarantee.
Carson Palmer completed 8-of-22 passes for 103 yards and two interceptions in the Cardinals' third preseason game.
Bruce Arians let the ones play longer than expected because the offense struggled so much. Palmer was intercepted on Arizona's first drive, getting picked on an errant wide throw by Raiders FS Nate Allen along the sideline. The rest of the first half, Arizona's offensive line was bullied by Khalil Mack & Co., leaving Palmer without clean passing-game looks and forcing him into inaccurate throws. Palmer was picked again by Allen toward the end of the second quarter. Through three preseason contests, Palmer is 15-of-33 passing for 268 yards, one touchdown, and the two picks. He's been sacked five times among 38 dropbacks.
Raiders RT Menelik Watson suffered a potentially serious ankle injury in Sunday night's third preseason game.
"It does not look good," coach Jack Del Rio told NBC's Michele Tafoya. Watson was reportedly "bawling" when doctors informed him of the severity of his injury. The Raiders have turned back to Austin Howard to start at right tackle.
Andre Ellington managed 19 yards on nine carries and eight yards on three receptions in the Cardinals' third preseason game.
Ellington led backfield work with the first-team offense in this one, even executing on an early short-yardage run. He was spelled with the ones by rookie David Johnson, as Chris Johnson (hamstring) was inactive. The Cardinals seem determined to scale back Ellington's workload after he wore down on 20-plus touches per game last season. The Johnsons will play complementary roles behind Ellington. Ellington remains the lead back, but Arizona could end up running a two- or even three-way committee once the season gets rolling. On the ground, Ellington has managed 34 yards on 14 carries (2.43 YPC) this preseason.
