Brandon Marshall is planning to mentor newly-acquired Jets TE Austin Seferian-Jenkins.

"I've been talking to Austin for a week now, even before this even happened," Marshall said. "When I saw what he was going through I reached out to him. We've been talking for a while. He is a great talent. When I heard we claimed him I was like 'This is God sent.' If he needs me, I am there. I've already connected him with the right people in the city if he needs them. Guys need second chances. When you make a mistake, it doesn’t mean you are a bad person. You need people to believe in you, and sometimes a fresh start is a good start." Marshall had numerous off-field run-ins before he got to New York and Chicago, but he's cleaned up his act considerably and has become a voice for mental-health awareness. ASJ is still just 24 (on Thursday).

Texans placed DE J.J. Watt on injured reserve with a back injury.

The Texans are still trying to figure out the exact nature of Watt's latest back issue, but it's believed to be a herniated disk. It's the same injury he had surgery for in the offseason. Most believe he will miss the remainder of the season and won't be ready in time to be the Texans' designated-for-return player. It's a massive loss. Devon Still and Antonio Smith are Watt's backups.

Texans signed DE Antonio Smith.

Smith, 35 next month, won a Super Bowl with the Broncos last season but didn't draw any known interest as a free agent. He played five seasons with the Texans from 2009-2013 and will help try and replace J.J. Watt's (back) snaps.

The Arizona Republic's Kent Somers believes WR Jaron Brown needs to "play more" at the expense of Michael Floyd.

Floyd has arguably been the least productive receiver in the league through three weeks. Among receivers with at least 20 targets, Floyd's 39.1 percent catch rate ranks dead last. He was credited with one drop in the Week 3 loss to the Bills, but he could have just as easily been charged with three. Floyd also ran a bad fourth-quarter route, leading to a Carson Palmer interception, when the Cardinals were threatening a comeback. Brown has caught 6-of-11 targets for 145 yards (24.2 YPR) and one score on just 85 snaps, mostly playing in garbage time.

The Houston defense will be without J.J. Watt for "an extended period of time" after the star defensive end re-injured his back.

The report from NFL Network's Ian Rapoport is terrible news for the Houston defense and takes some of the shine of the Texans D/ST in fantasy leagues. Houston won't be able to replace Watt's production, but still should remain usable in most matchups. The Texans D/ST will remain a top-10 fantasy option in Week 4 against Tennessee.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports J.J. Watt re-injured his surgically-repaired back and will be out "an extended period of time," possibly the rest of the season.

He's expected to be placed on injured reserve Wednesday. Watt had back surgery over the offseason, but made it back in time for Week 1 when some thought he'd miss 2-3 games. It's fair to wonder if he pushed himself too hard to get back and did more harm than good. Either way, this is a massive loss for the Texans as a team. Easily the most dominant defensive player in the game, Houston will now have to turn to some replacement-level player. Back injuries are never good, and Watt turned 27 last spring. He even started talking about retirement back in April.

Cardinals signed LS Aaron Brewer.

Incumbent LS Kam Canaday was cut after a bad snap in the Week 3 loss, leading to a Bills touchdown. Brewer has 64 games of experience.

The Panthers have been experimenting with rookie LCB James Bradberry in shadow coverage.

Bradberry followed Demaryius Thomas in Week 1 and Stefon Diggs in Week 3. It wasn't necessary in Week 2 against the 49ers. "Whatever the coaching staff asks me to do, I am willing to do it," Bradberry said. "I just do whatever they tell me." The No. 62 overall pick of the draft, Bradberry had a tough Week 1 but has steadied since. He's unsure if he'll follow Julio Jones in Week 4.
