Patriots released DT Terrance Knighton.

The writing was on the wall after Knighton did not play a snap in the third preseason game. Signed to a "one-year, $4.5 million deal" in March, the man they call Pot Roast is now on the look for his fourth team in three seasons. The Patriots will save just over $1.75 million against the cap with this move.

Redskins rookie RB Keith Marshall (elbow) is expected to miss at least three weeks.

The timetable is "at least" because CSN Washington's Chick Hernandez reports he will be "re-evaluated" after three weeks. It is certainly possible the injury-crossed back misses more time. Marshall suffered a nasty looking elbow injury in the third preseason game, but the team says it is just a sprain. With Matt Jones (shoulder) questionable for Week 1, undrafted rookie Rob Kelley could open the season in the starting lineup.

Colts waived/released RB Trey Williams, TE Konrad Reuland, WR Daniel Anthrop, and DT Keith Lumpkin.

Signed off the Dolphins' practice squad last December, Williams is a lightning quick scat back who has yet to find a home in the NFL. Only 23, he should latch on to at least a practice squad this season. The Colts have two more cuts to make before tomorrow's deadline.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports the Cowboys are looking to add a quarterback to backup Dak Prescott while he is the starter.

The implication being they are not looking for someone to come in and supplant the preseason star. Dallas flirted with Browns backup Josh McCown earlier in the preseason, but Rapoport does not expect them to "reignite" those talks. Dallas does not want to spend too much on a backup for their backup, but they cannot enter the season with Dak and Jameill Showers as the only healthy options.

Browns waived/released QB Austin Davis, TE E.J. Bibbs, and K Travis Coons.

Davis was an expected cut, but it is a reminder the team ridiculously gave him a three-year contract with a $500,000 signing bonus and $600,000 guaranteed last September. Barely more than a camp arm, he might not find a new home right away. With Coons cut, Patrick Murray has won the kicking competition.

Browns released OLB Paul Kruger.

Kruger started the third preseason game and played extensively with the first-team defense, so this is a shocking cut. Usage contributed to Kruger recording his lowest sack total since 2010 last season, but he was expected to bounce back in new DC Ray Horton's scheme. With plenty of teams desperate for pass rushers, Kruger should not be on the street long.

Even though Colin Kaepernick's $11.9 million salary is fully guaranteed, the 49ers could save salary cap space by releasing him if Kaepernick signed with another team.

As Profootballtalk's Mike Florio notes, the salary which Kaepernick would receive from the signing team would come off of San Francisco's cap. This at least gives them some incentive and excuse for parting ways with Kaepernick that isn't related to his sitting during the National Anthem. It's beginning to seem like not a matter of if but when Kaepernick is released by the Niners.

C.J. Uzomah hauled in 1-of-3 targets for 10 yards in the Bengals' third preseason game Sunday night.

Uzomah saw a red-zone target on the first possession of the game and worked as the first-team tight end Sunday night. With Tyler Eifert (ankle) out and Tyler Kroft's (knee) status up in the air, Uzomah could open the season in the starting lineup.
