Scott Atchison has been diagnosed with a sore right groin.

Atchison suffered the injury on Tuesday while warming up before an appearance. It's not clear how long he might be sidelined.

Ubaldo Jimenez allowed two runs over 5 2/3 innings in a no-decision against the Royals on Tuesday.

Jimenez was a mixed bag on Tuesday. Two runs allowed on just two hits? Good. Four walks and four strikeouts? Not so good. The right-hander's end results have looked alright his past few starts, but the underlying numbers still make him a crapshoot every time he goes out. His next start will come Monday against a tough Orioles lineup in Baltimore.
Jun 18 - 10:06 PM

Edwin Encarnacion went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI as the Blue Jays beat the Rockies 8-3 on Tuesday.

The homer was Encarnacion's 19th of the year and he's somewhat quietly driven in 58 runs. The first baseman is hitting .268/.352/.526 and is showing that his career year in 2012 wasn't a fluke.
Jun 18 - 9:55 PM

J.P. Arencibia went 3-for-4 with a double and a home run as the Blue Jays beat the Rockies on Tuesday.

The homer was Arencibia's third in four games and his 15th on the season. His .222/.243/.461 line is indicative of Arencibia's game -- he doesn't hit for average, he doesn't walk, but when he makes contact it goes a long way.
Jun 18 - 9:46 PM

Esmil Rogers allowed three runs -- two earned -- over 6 2/3 innings to beat the Rockies on Tuesday.

Rogers has now turned in two straight impressive starts as a member of the Blue Jays rotation, keeping the Rangers to one run through seven innings in his last start before limiting the Rockies to three runs on just four hits Tuesday. It's hard to imagine the success will last, but with Brandon Morrow suffering a setback recently Rogers will likely continue to start in the near term. His next start will come Monday against the Rays in Tampa.
Jun 18 - 9:42 PM

Jeff Francis allowed eight runs in six innings in a loss to the Blue Jays on Tuesday.

Francis did little right on Tuesday, giving up 10 hits -- including three homers -- while striking out only two. The outing left the southpaw with a 6.58 ERA and 1.56 WHIP on the season. There's been speculation for a while, but with Roy Oswalt set to make his Rockies debut on Thursday this start has the looks of Francis' last with the club.
Jun 18 - 9:39 PM

Astros acquired RHP Charles Basford from the Yankees in exchanged for OF Fernando Martinez.

A 37th-round pick last season, Basford has a 5.13 ERA over his first 19 relief appearances in pro ball, all at the A-ball level. The 22-year-old obviously is nowhere near ready for the majors.

Yankees acquired OF Fernando Martinez from the Astros in exchange for RHP Charles Basford.

Martinez cleared waivers last month after being designated for assignment, but he'll now get a fresh start in another organization. The former top prospect is a career .206/.269/.362 hitter over parts of five major league seasons. He'll be assigned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
