C.J. Cron - DH - Rays

C.J. Cron went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts against the Astros in Monday's loss.

Cron has a .761 OPS that's pretty much a match for the .751 that Brad Miller posted before he was unceremoniously designated for assignment. However, he leads the team in homers (by six) and in RBI, so he shouldn't have anything to worry about.

Nick Williams told Phillies' manager Gabe Kapler that he was fine after leaving Monday's game after getting hit in the face by a ball that bounced off of the outfield fence.

It's unclear if Williams actually had any X-rays done, or if he was simply referring to the pain that he was experiencing, but it sounds like he's going to be okay. Consider the outfielder day-to-day.

Trevor Bauer blanked the White Sox for seven innings to earn his sixth win of the season on Monday.

It seems like a fluke that Bauer has allowed just five homers in 100 2/3 innings, but there's no arguing with a 31-percent strikeout rate. His ERA is down to 2.50 now.

Dylan Covey surrendered five runs -- four earned -- over five innings Monday in a loss to the Indians.

Covey finally gave up his first homer in his seventh start of the year; Jason Kipnis took him deep in the fifth. He also walked five (one intentionally) and hit a batter. He's been a great surprise for the White Sox this far, but he's due to have some more issues with homers and walks going forward.

Victor Arano was charged two earned runs on two hits in the top of the ninth inning Monday versus the Cardinals.

Aranao got the first save chance for the Phillies since Hector Neris' demotion to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Monday afternoon and he couldn't seal the deal, though he did strike out three batters. On that third strikeout, the ball went to the backstop, allowing Yadier Molina to score from third base. It went into the book as a wild pitch. Adam Morgan then entered the game and let up a game-tying RBI single to Kolten Wong. Seranthony Dominguez seems to be the best bet for saves in the post-Neris era.

Jason Kipnis went 3-for-4 with a homer and two RBI against the White Sox in Monday's victory.

Kipnis isn't exactly hot, but he has hit four of his five homers on the year in his last 18 games. It's a start anyway. Second base remains an intriguing upgrade possibility for the Indians in advance of the trade deadline.
Jun 18 - 11:20 PM

Roberto Perez doubled twice and knocked in two runs Monday versus the White Sox.

That's enough to raise his average from .136 to .155. He entered the night with just four RBI in 81 at-bats this year. The Indians would love to see Perez play better, but Yan Gomes is going to remain their primary catcher.

Kenta Maeda will indeed start the first game of Tuesday's day-night doubleheader against the Cubs.

Rich Hill will take the mound in the nightcap for the Dodgers. Maeda warmed up several times during the rain and power outage delays at Wrigley Field on Monday, so it'll be interesting to see how that effects him heading into Tuesday's start.
