Tigers optioned RHP Anibal Sanchez to Triple-A Toledo.

Sanchez had to agree to the move given his big league tenure, and it was actually his idea, as he wants to be stretched out to start again. The veteran right-hander has posted a 9.00 ERA and 2.05 WHIP over 11 relief appearances this season, although he did strike out 22 over 21 innings. He could get another shot to start with the Tigers if Matt Boyd's struggles continue.

Mariners recalled RHP Emilio Pagan from Triple-A Tacoma.

Pagan was touched up for five runs over two relief appearances earlier this month. He'll be used in middle relief.

Mariners optioned RHP Chris Heston to Triple-A Tacoma.

Heston was pummeled for seven runs over three innings in a spot start Sunday. He was also awful in a relief appearance for the M's last month.

Mariners optioned 1B Daniel Vogelbach to Triple-A Tacoma.

Vogelbach was up for one day and had a single in three at-bats in a start Sunday. He'll return to a .262/.379/.447 line with five homers at Tacoma.

Mariners optioned C Tuffy Gosewisch to Triple-A Tacoma.

Gosewisch looked overmatched in his stint with the big club, going 2-for-28 with a 14/1 K/BB ratio. Mike Zunino has replaced him on the roster.
May 22 - 5:04 PM

Mariners recalled C Mike Zunino from Triple-A Tacoma.

Zunino was sent down earlier this month after hitting just .167/.250/.236 with no homers and a 30/6 K/BB ratio, but he's earned another shot after batting .293/.356/.707 with five homers in 12 games at Tacoma. He'll go back to seeing the lion's share of starts at catcher for the Mariners and remains an intriguing power bat, but obviously he's far from a safe bet.

Brett Anderson (back) will throw a bullpen session Tuesday.

It will be his first time throwing from the bump since a lower back strain forced him to the disabled list two weeks ago. Anderson put up an 8.18 ERA over six starts before going on the DL, and his role wouldn't seem to be set in stone even when he's ready to return.

Braves released 1B James Loney.

Loney asked for and was granted his release following the Braves' trade for Matt Adams, as he could plainly see that there wasn't going to be an opportunity for him. The 33-year-old will surely catch on elsewhere in short order.
