Bobby Parnell (elbow) will throw a bullpen session this week in New York in front of Mets pitching coach Dan Warthen.

Parnell has been limited to flat-ground work for a few weeks while battling forearm soreness. Assuming the side session goes well, he'll be cleared to resume his rehab assignment. There's no timetable for Parnell's return to the Mets' bullpen.

Chase Headley wasn't in Tuesday's lineup due to a sore back.

The Yankees think maybe he's a little sore after diving on Toronto's artificial turf Monday. There's no concern, though, as Headley is expected to be back in the lineup Wednesday.

Jose Pirela (concussion) will be activated from the disabled list on Wednesday.

Pirela has been over his concussion issues for a while, but the Yankees wanted to get him a good number of rehab at-bats (33). He's expected to take Gregorio Petit's roster spot.

Yankees manager Joe Girardi revealed Tuesday that Mark Teixeira's absence from Monday's lineup was due to a minor left lat muscle issue.

It's something that's been bothering Teixeira for a few days. He returned to the lineup on Tuesday, though, and belted his 10th home run of the season. As long as the ailment doesn't get worse, it appears Teixeira will continue to play through it. "You deal with bumps and bruises all year," Teixeira said Tuesday. "Joe thought it was a good day for me to take off (Monday) and let it rest. It feels a little better today. The day off helped."

Jean Segura went hitless in three at-bats in his return to the lineup Tuesday.

Segura was hit on the helmet by a Pedro Strop fastball on Sunday, but he wound up missing just one game. The shortstop is batting .280/.314/.370 so far this season.

Adam Eaton doubled and scored a run in his return to the lineup Tuesday.

Eaton missed the previous three contests while battling the flu. He's hitting a disappointing .195/.241/.268 this season.

Diamondbacks general manager Dave Stewart confirmed that the club has interest in Jarrod Saltalamacchia.

"He's a player that we're going to talk a little bit more in-depth about," Stewart said Tuesday. "I have to see what our scouts are saying and talk to our internal guys, and if it makes sense then we'll make the next step." Saltalamacchia, who was officially released by the Marlins on Tuesday, makes a lot of sense as an upgrade over Tuffy Gosewisch. The D'Backs can get him cheaply now that his old $21 million contract is off the books. They're not the only squad that's interested, however, as Sportsnet's Ben Nicholson-Smith says "a few teams" are in the mix. The Royals, Indians and Mariners have also been connected to Salty.

Red Sox manager John Farrell indicated Tuesday that the team might give Hanley Ramirez (shoulder) a week to improve before deciding whether to place him on the disabled list.

"You know, if you look back to what we’ve done with other situations where it’s not been a DL, you get to that midpoint, that seventh day, hopefully we would have much more clear information before the seven days arrives," Farrell said. "That’s usually been our marker when to put a guy on the DL or not." Ramirez had increased range of motion with his left shoulder on Tuesday, and an MRI showed no structural damage. Still, he's undoubtedly sore and the Red Sox might wind up shutting him down for a couple weeks.
