Yankees acquired OF Fernando Martinez from the Astros in exchange for RHP Charles Basford.
Martinez cleared waivers last month after being designated for assignment, but he'll now get a fresh start in another organization. The former top prospect is a career .206/.269/.362 hitter over parts of five major league seasons.
Felipe Paulino (elbow) has been recalled from his rehab assignment due to lower back stiffness.
Paulino was scratched from a scheduled rehab start on Sunday due to the injury. It's considered minor, though, so he should be pitching again soon. "I don't think it's anything major. Very minor," Royals manager Ned Yost said.
Scott Atchison injured himself before an appearance on Tuesday against the Braves.
Atchison had just returned from the DL earlier in the day but hurt himself while warming up. The good news is that it appeared to be a groin injury and not an aggravation of his elbow malady.
Carlos Zambrano struck out six over seven scoreless inning for Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Tuesday.
Big Z permitted five hits and walked one. The veteran righty now holds a 0.95 ERA over five starts in the minors and could be added to the Phillies' rotation this weekend. Jonathan Pettibone would lose his rotation spot is Zambrano is called up.
The Rockies are hoping that Jorge De La Rosa (finger) will be ready to make his next scheduled start on Sunday.
De La Rosa is dealing with a bruised left thumb, which he suffered during Monday's start. It doesn't sound like a big deal, but he'll be monitored over the next few days. "We'll see, but hopefully with five days, he'll be fine," manager Walt Weiss said.
Padres signed OF Ben Francisco to a minor league contract, assigned him to Triple-A Tucson.
Francisco was released by the Yankees earlier this month after batting just .114/.220/.182 in 50 plate appearances. He'll provide some depth in the minors.
David Price (triceps) said he felt "great" during a bullpen session Tuesday.
The Rays are expected to set his rehab schedule on Wednesday. The club had thought that Price would need three rehab starts before returning, but he's looked better than expected and might not need that much time.
Red Sox recalled C Ryan Lavarnway from Triple-A Pawtucket.
He'll provide catching depth while David Ross is out. Lavarnway has two hits in eight at-bats for the Red Sox this season.
