Giancarlo Stanton hit his 26th home run of the season, going for 1-for-3 in Friday's 5-2 loss to the Reds.

Stanton hit the eighth inning tater off Jonathan Broxton. Unfortunately for the Marlins, it was just a solo shot when they were already down 4-1. The RBI was Stanton's 74th of the year. Stanton remains one of the most dangerous bats in the bigs, and he's slashing .293/.394/.552 on the season.

Mat Latos allowed only one run over seven innings against the Marlins on Friday.

Latos struck out five, walked four and surrendered five hits. The lone Marlin run off Latos was knocked in on a Jordany Valdespin RBI single in the fifth. That's two starts in a row in which Latos has walked four, but his ERA still sits at a nice 3.07. He'll take on the Indians and try to improve on this one.

Jesus Guzman was removed from Friday's game against the Blue Jays due to back spasms.

Guzman had been 1-for-2 with an RBI single before departing. He has been abysmal at the plate this season, slashing a meager .200/.275/.269 with just eight RBI.

Jarred Cosart gave up four runs in five and a third innings in his first start for the Marlins on Friday, a 5-2 loss to the Reds.

Acquired from the Astros on Thursday, Jarred Cosart was cruising until the sixth, when the Reds scored three of their four runs. The big blow was a two-run double by Ryan Ludwick. Cosart was pulled after just 82 pitches. He struck out four and walked three. With the Astros, he held a 4.41 ERA. Cosart is scheduled to face the Pirates in his next start.

Asdrubal Cabrera went 0-for-4 on Friday in his first game with the Nationals.

No shame in that for Cabrera, as most of his new teammates weren't doing much better in Friday's 2-1 loss to the Phillies. Cabrera started at second base and batted seventh. With the Indians, he hit to the tune of .246/.305/.386.

Rajai Davis led the Tigers offensive attack in Friday's 4-2 victory over the Rockies, going 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored and two RBI.

Davis got the scoring started in the fifth inning with a two-run single off opposing hurler Franklin Morales and came around to score on an Ian Kinsler double. He also singled in the seventh inning and scored a valuable insurance run when Victor Martinez knocked him in. Set to see increased playing time after the departure of Austin Jackson, the speedy outfielder should be owned and started in all formats.

Joe Nathan was able to navigate the ninth inning without surrendering a run on Friday, despite allowing a hit and a walk in the frame.

The veteran right-hander has pitched better of late, but still has been forced to dance on raindrops and pitch out of danger in far too many situations. He sports an unsightly 5.45 ERA, 1.46 WHIP and 45/17 K/BB ratio on the season, but with Joakim Soria struggling with his new club Nathan's security in the ninth inning is actually growing.

Justin Verlander hurled eight strong innings in Friday’s victory over the Rockies, allowing just two runs on eight hits while striking out five.

All of the damage against him on the night came in the seventh inning, where Wilin Rosario delivered an RBI single and Josh Rutledge plated another with a fielder’s choice. Perhaps the acquisition of David Price has motivated Verlander to step his game up, as he owns a disappointing 4.66 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and 110/52 K/BB ratio over 150 2/3 frames on the season. He’ll look to keep things rolling when he does battle against the Yankees in New York on Wednesday.
