Nationals recalled INF Zach Walters from Triple-A Syracuse.
He's replacing Ryan Zimmerman (hamstring) on the roster. Walters hit just .182 in a five-week stay with the Nats earlier this season. His playing time figures to be limited.
Nationals placed 3B Ryan Zimmerman on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right hamstring.
The Nationals are still awaiting MRI results before they determine how long the third baseman will be sidelined, but obviously they expect him to miss at least a couple weeks. Anthony Rendon will handle third base and Danny Espinosa will be at second while Zimmerman is on the shelf. Zach Walters is replacing Zimmerman on the roster.
CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that Tony Sipp has "drawn the most interest of any Astros player."
Sipp was scooped up by the Astros in May after opting out of a minor league deal with the Padres and has gone on to post a 2.45 ERA and terrific 41/7 K/BB ratio over 29 1/3 relief innings. Heyman lists the Angels, Braves and Orioles as possible fits for Sipp.
CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that the Tigers have inquired on Chad Qualls.
The Tigers have been connected to just about every reliever on the market. Qualls has experienced a nice bounce-back season in Houston, posting a 1.78 ERA and 31/4 K/BB ratio over 35 1/3 innings. A trade would be bad for his fantasy value, as he almost surely would be used as a setup man wherever he goes.
Chris Young is back in the Mets' lineup Wednesday.
Young missed Tuesday's contest after exiting Monday with a left calf cramp. The veteran outfielder is hitting just .202/.288/.352 over 75 games for the Mets this season.
Curtis Granderson (illness) remained out of the Mets' lineup Wednesday.
Granderson is still under the weather. The Mets do have Chris Young back in the lineup, as he's playing right field in Grandy's place.
Yankees purchased the contract of RHP Chris Leroux from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
Leroux was designated for assignment by the Yankees back in May after allowing five runs on five hits and a pair of walks in one inning of work. He's getting another chance now but will be used in low-leverage innings.
Yankees designated RHP Bruce Billings for assignment.
The move clears room on the 40-man roster for Chris Leroux. Billings, who allowed four runs over four relief frames in his lone big league appearance this season, has a good shot to clear waivers.
