Collin McHugh allowed five runs over five innings but earned the win Tuesday against the Angels.

McHugh wasn't terribly sharp -- he gave up seven hits and walked four in the game -- but he was the sharper of the two starters, and that was good enough to earn him the victory. It was still a less-than-encouraging showing from the 28-year-old, who now owns a 4.43 ERA and 1.32 WHIP through 21 starts. He'll look for his 13th win of the year Sunday against the Diamondbacks.

Jung-Ho Kang went 2-for-4 with a game-winning home run as the Pirates outlasted the Twins 8-7 on Tuesday.

Kang was hit by a pitch and scored in the sixth inning and came up with the game tied in the top of the ninth. Against Twins closer Glen Perkins, Kang launched a solo homer to give the Pirates the lead and ultimately the win. The shortstop has seven multi-hit games in his last nine contests, raising his season line to .289/.367/.426 with six homers and 32 RBI.
Jul 29 - 12:16 AM

Aaron Hicks went 2-for-3 with three RBI and a run scored Tuesday against the Pirates.

Rather than one big hit, Hicks drove in runs in three different innings in the loss. That included an RBI triple in the sixth inning. Since being activated from the disabled list on July 3, Hicks is hitting .323 (21-for-65) with three homers, 14 RBI and 12 runs scored. Still just 25, Hicks may finally be delivering on some of the promise he showed as a prospect.

Gregory Polanco hit a three-run double in Tuesday's win over the Twins.

Polanco broke a tie with his bases-loaded double in the eighth inning. He came around to score later in the inning. The 23-year-old finished 1-for-5 in the game. Polanco has come through with some big hits this year but has been up and down, batting .243/.314/.358 with 30 RBI, 48 runs scored and 17 stolen bases on the season.
Jul 29 - 12:06 AM

Francisco Cervelli went 3-for-5 with two runs scored in Tuesday's win over the Twins.

The 29-year-old was a quiet pickup this past offseason after the Pirates lost Russell Martin, but he's been an offensive plus for the Bucs this year. The multi-hit game was Cervelli's fourth in a row, raising his line to .301/.367/.410 with 32 RBI and 32 runs scored on the season.
Jul 29 - 12:02 AM

Twins recalled INF Jorge Polanco from Triple-A Rochester.

He'll be up for a few days while Trevor Plouffe is on paternity leave. Polanco has hit .297/.338/.395 with four homers and 15 steals between Double- and Triple-A this season.
Jul 28 - 11:57 PM

Mike Pelfrey allowed three runs -- two earned -- over 5 1/3 innings in a no-decision against the Pirates on Tuesday.

Pelfrey gave up five hits and walked two in the outing. He kept the Pirates off the board until the fifth inning but didn't stick around long enough to factor in the decision. With the no-decision, Pelfrey remains without a win since June 7. He'll take a 5-7 record, 3.92 ERA and 1.46 WHIP into Sunday's tilt with the Mariners.
Jul 28 - 11:57 PM

Twins placed 3B Trevor Plouffe on the paternity leave list.

He can miss up to three games. Jorge Polanco has taken Plouffe's spot on the roster and we could see Miguel Sano get some time at third base the next couple days.
