Jets released LB Deion Barnes.

Barnes drew praise from the coaching staff during OTAs but apparently that success didn't carry over into training camp. The Penn State alum spent last year on the Jets' practice squad and could be headed back there in 2016.

Bills signed QB Austin Trainor.

That gives the Bills a fourth quarterback behind Tyrod Taylor, E.J. Manuel and Cardale Jones. Trainor went undrafted out of West Georgia in 2015. He tried out for the Bills and Raiders last offseason but never earned a roster spot. With Jones battling a sore shoulder, Trainor will probably get some run in Thursday's preseason finale against Detroit.

Steelers released LB Jordan Zumwalt.

The cuts are beginning. Zumwalt hasn't played a single regular season snap since arriving as a sixth-round pick in 2014. The Steelers have also placed fourth-round OT Jerald Hawkins (shoulder) on injured reserve. They'll need to trim their roster to 75 by Tuesday.

Christian Hackenberg completed 6-of-16 passes for 105 yards with one touchdown and one interception in Saturday's preseason game.

Hackenberg's debut performance showed exactly why he's buried on the team's depth chart. The second-round pick got hot for a stretch with four straight completions on a fourth-quarter touchdown drive but was a non-factor the rest of the night. He threw an ugly interception in his own end zone late in the fourth quarter to set up the Giants' game-winning drive and also took an inexcusable delay of game penalty. It was an uninspiring effort from Hackenberg, who is destined to spend his rookie year glued to the Jets' bench.

Jets ILB David Harris (shoulder) will have an MRI on Sunday.

He left Saturday's preseason game with a shoulder injury after getting in a pileup at the end of the first half. Harris underwent X-rays after the game, which came back negative. Obviously we won't know much until his results come back, but ESPN Jets reporter Rich Cimini said the team is optimistic about his status. For now, consider him day to day.

Falcons signed SS Dashon Goldson, formerly of the Redskins.

Goldson must have looked good at Saturday's workout because it took the Falcons less than 24 hours to sign him. It's a smart deal for Atlanta with rookie Keanu Neal slated to miss 3-4 weeks after undergoing a knee scope. Despite his All-Pro pedigree, the 31-year-old Goldson will likely begin the year backing up Kemal Ishmael at strong safety.
Aug 28 - 9:04 AM

Jared Goff suffered a bruised tailbone in Saturday's preseason game.

His X-rays, which were deemed precautionary, came back negative. Goff had another rough night Saturday against the Broncos, completing just 4-of-12 passes for an underwhelming 45 yards and no touchdowns. He's looked surprisingly fragile and clearly isn't ready to take the reigns as L.A.'s starting quarterback. Considering what the Rams gave up for him (and who's ahead of him on the depth chart), Goff's play this preseason has been a major disappointment.
Aug 28 - 8:34 AM

Cody Latimer (knee) will undergo an MRI on Sunday.

The results should give us a clearer idea of when we might see Latimer back on a football field. The third-year wideout injured himself on a block in Saturday's preseason game against the Rams. Latimer downplayed the injury after the game, though beat writer Troy Renck of the Denver Post said he saw him walking with a noticeable limp. Latimer's Week 1 status is now in flux.
