Masahiro Tanaka tossed 6 1/3 innings of one-run ball Monday in a win over the Twins.

New York's offense put up 14 runs in this one and Tanaka didn't let the Twins up for air, yielding just three hits and two walks while striking out five. He's now 3-2 on the year with a 5.28 ERA, 1.14 WHIP, and 28/6 K/BB ratio in five starts covering 29 innings. Up next is a road start against the Angels.

Jake Odorizzi surrendered five earned runs over 4 2/3 innings Monday in a loss to the Yankees.

Odorizzi struggled right out of the gate in this one, yielding three runs in the bottom of the first inning and one run in the bottom of the second. He issued three walks and gave up five hits, including two home runs. The 28-year-old right-hander will carry a 1-2 record, 4.50 ERA, and 1.42 WHIP into his next start at home against the Reds -- a team that doesn't have quite the firepower of the Bronx Bombers.
Apr 23 - 10:52 PM

Giancarlo Stanton finished 4-for-4 with a homer, a walk, two RBI, and three runs scored Monday in the Yankees' 14-1 rout of the Twins.

Stanton drew a six-pitch walk in his first plate appearance, singled in his second plate appearance, belted a long solo homer in his third plate appearance, hit an RBI single in his fourth plate appearance, and then added another single for good measure in his fifth and final plate appearance. It's just the sixth time in Stanton's career that he has reached base five times in a single game. His batting average jumped from .185 to .224, and his OPS rose from .678 to .778. The 28-year-old slugger is going to be just fine.

Phillies signed INF Trevor Plouffe to a minor league contract.

Plouffe opted out of his minor league deal with the Rangers earlier this month and needed just a couple weeks to catch on in another organization. The 31-year-old will provide organizational depth at the corner infield spots.

Eugenio Suarez (thumb) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Louisville on Tuesday.

That means he'll play a game just 16 days after suffering a fractured left thumb, an injury that routinely takes players six-plus weeks to come back from. How many rehab games Suarez will require isn't known, but as long as he feels good it shouldn't take many since he didn't wind up missing much time.

Billy Hamilton tallied his fifth stolen base of the season Monday night against the Braves.

Hamilton finished the night 1-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored. The 27-year-old speedster is batting just .179/.286/.239 through 77 plate appearances this season and continues to hit ninth in the Reds' lineup.
Apr 23 - 10:11 PM

Nick Markakis finished 3-for-4 with a homer and three total RBI in the Braves' loss to the Reds on Monday.

Markakis hit a solo shot off Reds starter Sal Romano in the top of the fourth inning and drove in Ender Inciarte and Freddie Freeman on a two-run single in the top of the eighth. The 34-year-old outfielder is now batting .301/.385/.458 with three home runs, 14 RBI, and 13 runs scored in 21 games played this season.
Apr 23 - 10:09 PM

Scott Schebler went 2-for-5 with a homer, three RBI, and three runs scored Monday in the Reds' victory over the Braves.

Schebler got Cincinnati on the board with a game-tying two-run homer off Braves starter Mike Foltynewicz in the bottom of the fifth inning and then added an RBI single in the bottom of the eighth. The 27-year-old outfielder has been productive this year when healthy (.929 OPS in seven games) and he batted leadoff for the Reds in Monday's win.
