Troy Tulowitzki (groin) took ground balls on the field and did some light baserunning Monday.

Tulo missed back-to-back games over the weekend with groin soreness, but he was hoping to return to action Monday. The Blue Jays have already been playing short-handed and might consider putting him on the DL if he isn't ready.

The Angels are calling up infielder Kaleb Cowart from Triple-A Salt Lake.

The Angels have yet to make an official announcement. Cowart has appeared in one game with the Angels this season and owns a .311/.383/.482 batting line with 12 homers and 19 steals over 90 games in Triple-A. It's unclear how the Angels intend to use him, but he's an option to play second base.

Adam Duvall is not in Monday's lineup against the Indians.

No word of an injury, so he could just be getting a breather. Patrick Kivlehan will get a start in left field. Scooter Gennett will serve as the designated hitter under AL rules.

Athletics optioned 1B/OF Matt Olson to Triple-A.

Olson served as an extra bench player during the A's interleague weekend series against the Mets. He went 1-for-2 with a single and a strikeout in his return to the majors.

Athletics recalled RHP Josh Smith from Triple-A Nashville.

Smith, 29, has struggled with a 6.75 ERA and 15/12 K/BB ratio over 24 innings with the A's this season. He'll pitch in a middle relief role.

Astros prospect Yordan Alvarez went 4-for-5 on Sunday for High-A Bules Creek.

One of the hits was a double. Alvarez has seen his stock soar this year, as he's shown big-time offensive upside from the left side of the plate. The hit tool might be ahead of the power tool, and that's impressive since the power tool might be plus. There's obvious risk with a first base profile, but Alvarez swings the bat well enough that he might be a middle-of-the-order hitter someday.

Jay Bruce - OF - Mets

Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports that the Mets haven't received much interest in outfielders Jay Bruce and Curtis Granderson.

Feinsand provides that tidbit while mentioning that the Mets are getting hits on Addison Reed, Asdrubal Cabrera, and Lucas Duda. Bruce owns an .852 OPS with 25 homers this season, but he's below-average defensively and power isn't hard to find right now. The 30-year-old is due to become a free agent this winter. It doesn't sound like the Mets should expect much in return via trade.

Rays prospect Brendan McKay went 2-for-3 on Sunday for short-season Hudson Valley.

McKay also drew two walks. Since joining the professional ranks, McKay has hit .292/.393/.417 with a homer and four walks. It's no surprise that he's shown a quality approach at the plate right away, but it's still nice to see. Assuming he continues to hit, he could reach Tampa Bay by 2019 -- maybe even sooner.
