FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that, in addition to the Nationals, the Indians and Giants have also inquired on Mark Melancon.
The Pirates are fielding offer for their closer even as they're in the Wild Card hunt. Rosenthal says they're looking for a seventh-inning reliever type in addition to a prospect for Melancon.
Astros recalled INF Tyler White from Triple-A Fresno.
White flamed out after a hot start with the Astros but will get another chance after batting .288/.352/.583 with 11 homers in 34 games for Fresno. He doesn't figure to be in line for a ton of playing time, however.
Astros placed INF Luis Valbuena on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to July 27, with a right hamstring strain.
The Astros had said that Valbuena might be ready to play at some point over the weekend, but they've decided to play it safe and hold him out for at least a couple weeks. Alex Bregman will handle third base.
Tigers signed LHP Cesar Ramos to a minor league contract.
Ramos elected free agency earlier this month after being removed from the Rangers' 40-man roster. The left-hander will provide some versatile depth with the ability to start or relieve.
Diamondbacks activated OF David Peralta from the 15-day disabled list.
Peralta spent five and a half weeks on the DL with a lower back sprain but is ready to roll now after playing in a few rehab games. He's hit a disappointing .259/.308/.442 with four homers over 41 games this season.
Braves recalled RHP Ryan Weber from Triple-A Gwinnett.
Weber has struggled in his five appearances with the big club this season, posting a 9.28 ERA. He'll work in middle relief.
ESPN's Buster Olney reports that the Mets are among the teams that have expressed interest in Jay Bruce.
The feeling had been that the Mets likely were just shopping for a reliever, but that thinking may be shifting with them being connected to Jonathan Lucroy and now Bruce. Bruce wouldn't be a perfect fit, as they could use someone who could play center field, but the Mets appear to be thinking bat first, defense second here. ESPN's Jerry Crasnick also lists the Dodgers, Nationals and Orioles as having trade talks involving Bruce.
Orioles sent OF Julio Borbon outright to Triple-A Norfolk.
He cleared waivers after being designated for assignment and will remain in the organization. Borbon was 2-for-9 in his short stay at the major league level.
