Mariners optioned LHP Roenis Elias to Triple-A Tacoma.

The 26-year-old southpaw has pitched relatively well in the Mariners rotation, compiling a 4.27 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 64/25 K/BB ratio over 78 innings in 13 starts. He became the odd-man out though with Hisashi Iwakuma set to return from the disabled list. Elias will get another chance the next time the M's need an extra starter.

Rays optioned LHP C.J. Riefenhauser to Triple-A Durham.

The 25-year-old southpaw has really struggled in his limited time with the Rays this season, posting a 9.95 ERA, 1.90 WHIP and 2/4 K/BB ratio in 6 1/3 innings of work. He'll continue to provide bullpen depth in the minor leagues.

Rays designated 1B Marc Krauss for assignment.

The first baseman was optioned to Triple-A earlier in the week after going just 1-for-10 with seven strikeouts in his limited time with the Rays. There's a chance that he could attract some interest on waivers.

Denard Span is not in the Nationals starting lineup for Saturday's contest against the Giants.

It appears to be nothing more than a regular day of rest for the veteran outfielder who has seen his fair share of injuries this season. Michael Taylor will slide over to center field and bat leadoff for the Nationals against Madison Bumgarner and the Giants.

Reds general manager Walt Jocketty clarified Thursday that the team will not trade third baseman Todd Frazier.

The Reds are expected to be sellers at the trade deadline and have several pieces that should be very popular commodities. Frazier won't be one of them though. He's in the midst of an outstanding season, slashing .281/.341/.600 with 25 homers, 54 RBI and eight stolen bases.

Rangers activated LHP Matt Harrison from the 60-day disabled list.

Harrison will make his long-awaited return to the Rangers rotation on Tuesday against the Diamondbacks. Harrison has been sidelined since undergoing spinal fusion surgery last June and has made a total of six starts in the big leagues since the 2012 season. He struggled in six starts on his minor league rehab assignment, compiling a 6.23 ERA and 1.67 WHIP over 34 2/3 innings.

Twins activated RHP Ervin Santana from the restricted list.

Santana has finally finished serving his 80-game suspension for use of performance-enhancing drugs. He will make his Twins debut on Sunday against the Royals. He was terrific in three minor league rehab starts with Triple-A Rochester, registering a 1.74 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 11/4 K/BB ratio over 20 2/3 innings. He's worth a look in any mixed leagues where he remains available.
