Russell Wilson completed just 7-of-15 passes for 56 yards in Saturday’s preseason game against the Chargers.
Wilson looked a bit out of sorts, underthrowing Jimmy Graham on a crucial third down and almost getting picked off on a deep ball to Kevin Smith. He was also called for intentional grounding while trying to avoid a sack. Wilson was effective with his legs, scrambling four times for 23 yards. Even studs like Wilson aren’t immune to the sloppy play that often prevails during the preseason. Fantasy owners have nothing to worry about as Wilson gears up for September 13’s season opener against the Rams.
Reggie Bush rushed once for 21 yards in the 49ers' third preseason game.
The one carry came on a broken play on third-and-long in the first quarter. Bush saw some work with the first-team offense on third downs, but Carlos Hyde was the clear lead back on early downs. With their defense bleeding talent this offseason, Bush could see more opportunities than expected in passing situations. He is a good late-round pick in PPR.
Jimmy Graham secured two of his five targets for 24 yards in Saturday’s preseason game against the Chargers.
There was no touchdown dunk in this one as the Seahawks struggled to move the chains on offense. Russell Wilson was uncharacteristically shaky, missing Graham high on one pass and underthrowing him on another. Graham’s workload isn’t going to be the same as it was in New Orleans but he’s still a matchup nightmare inside the red zone. His current ADP is in the early third round.
Philip Rivers finished 13-of-19 for 140 yards in Saturday’s preseason game against the Seahawks.
He left the game in the second quarter as a precaution after banging his hand. Rivers said he would have played through it if it were the regular season. He showed strong chemistry with Keenan Allen and newcomer Stevie Johnson. Rivers will finish the preseason with a 93.5 passer rating.
Kenny Britt caught 2-of-3 targets for 21 yards in Saturday's preseason game against the Colts.
Britt finishes the preseason with five catches for 44 yards. Britt revived his career under coach Jeff Fisher last season, but at best, he's a low-upside WR4 for fantasy purposes.
Carlos Hyde rushed four times for 28 yards in the 49ers' third preseason game.
Hyde was the lone bright spot on the 49ers offense. He bounced off several tacklers on his 17-yard run and once again looked quick. Hyde could be hurt by the lack of talent around him on offense and the negative game scripts the 49ers are likely to find themselves in this season, but he has shown enough to be considered a low-end RB2. Hyde has 13 carries for 73 yards (5.61 YPC) this preseason.
Stevie Johnson notched four catches for 63 yards in Saturday’s preseason loss to the Seahawks.
Johnson used a wicked stiff arm to gain 34 yards on his first catch and seemed to be Philip Rivers’ preferred target on third downs. He’s a much better fit in San Diego than he ever was with the Niners. Johnson will be an asset in PPR leagues, particularly while Antonio Gates serves his four-game suspension.
Chris Givens caught 2-of-2 targets for 63 yards and a touchdown.
The deep threat added a six-yard rush. Givens' 44-yard touchdown came on a perfectly executed play fake on an end around from Nick Foles. Givens showed tremendous speed in getting behind the entire defense. Givens made waves as a rookie in 2012, but his production has steadily declined since. Still only 25, however, he's now up to 7/179/2 this preseason. Perhaps he'll put himself back in the WR5 conversation.
