Jaguars WR Cecil Shorts has the flu.

Nov 27 - 9:09 AM

According to the New York Daily News, both Rex Ryan and OC Marty Mornhinweg were among those that wanted Michael Vick to keep starting over Geno Smith.

It speaks volumes about the coaching staff's lack of faith in Geno. Although Vick looked completely lost on the field in Detroit Monday night, the last thing they want to do is turn back to their 2013 second-round pick. "Does he give you a good chance to win? Or a chance to win? I believe he does give us a chance to win," said Ryan, who doesn't want a public battle with the front office as he prepares to start looking for another job this offseason. The Dolphins D/ST is a preferred play in Week 13.

Former Colts GM Bill Polian compares 49ers ILB Chris Borland to All-Pro Luke Kuechly.

Borland, a third-round pick out of Wisconsin, got a big chance when Patrick Willis (toe) went down in Week 7. He's taken the league by storm and was referred to as "Baby Zach Thomas" by one 49ers official. Over the last five games, Borland has 64 tackles, one sack, nine tackles for a loss, two interceptions, one fumble recovery and three pass breakups. It's impossible to not notice him jumping off the screen when watching 49ers games.

Jets TE Jace Amaro (concussion) is not expected to play in Monday night's game against the Dolphins.

Amaro sustained a concussion in last week's loss to the Bills. The Jets will have to ride with Jeff Cumberland and Zach Sudfeld. Chris Pantale could be signed off the practice squad.

Jets RE Muhammad Wilkerson (toe) is not expected to play in Monday night's game against the Dolphins.

Wilkerson was in a walking boot Monday after sustaining something "similar" to turf toe against the Bills last week. Meanwhile, stud DT Sheldon Richardson (back) is also questionable. They're two big parts of the Jets' only unit functioning at a high level right now.

Impending free agent Justin Forsett said his preference is to re-sign with the Ravens.

It's going to a tricky contract negotiation as Forsett is a 29-year-old running back. He's going to want to get paid after playing at a Pro Bowl level for just $730,000 this year, but that's not the way it works at the position. Although Forsett currently ranks third in rushing yards (903), first in YPC among running backs, first in carries of 20+ yards and seventh in PFF's Elusive Rating, he's going to have to accept a short-term deal.

Newly signed Cardinals RB Michael Bush is not expected to get carries in Sunday's Week 13 game at Atlanta.

Coach Bruce Arians tells it how it is on Bush, who has been out of the league since last season ended. "It's going to be hard to have a guy who didn't play in OTAs and didn't have a training camp, and for me to give him the ball on Sunday, that would be pretty hard," Arians said. Once Bush is up to speed, Arians confirmed that he'll be implemented into short-yardage and goal-line packages. That could come as soon as Week 14.

Sources close to the situation tell the Philly Inquirer that Nick Foles' (collarbone) best case scenario would be a Week 16 return.

Foles will have a followup appointment next week. The Philly Inquirer's Jeff McLane reports Foles' initial timetable of 6-8 weeks was likely on the optimistic side, and the collarbone must be "more than" fully healed in order to prevent against doing further damage to the bone. As Mark Sanchez has become increasingly turnover prone the more he's played, the chances have increased of Foles regaining his starting quarterback job when healthy.
