Garrett Cooper (wrist) will move his minor league rehab assignment to Triple-A New Orleans on Wednesday.

Cooper just played back-to-back games at High-A Jupiter, going 2-for-3 with a walk. He's expected to alternate between first base, left field, and right field when he returns from the disabled list, possibly before the end of this month. The 27-year-old has been on the disabled list since April 2 with a partial tear of the tendon sheath in his right wrist.

Martin Prado (hamstring) is expected to return the Marlins before the All-Star break.

Prado, who's been out since May 26 with a left hamstring strain, is hitting, fielding, and running, and could begin a minor league rehab assignment before the end of June. "Martin has been a surprise that he's doing this well this fast," manager Don Mattingly said Tuesday. "I'll say it like that. He's doing really well."

Blake Snell worked around seven walks to limit the Astros to one run in seven innings for a win Tuesday.

One of the walks was intentional. Despite all of the free passes, Snell threw just 102 pitches in seven innings. Justin Verlander, who also allowed only one run, needed 122 pitches to get through 6 2/3. Snell moved to 9-4 with a 2.48 ERA.

Sergio Romo retired two of the three Astros he faced for his fourth save Tuesday.

Fortunately, the Astros that Romo faced were Max Stassi, Tyler White and Jake Marisnick. The Rays could have brought him in to face Jose Altuve a batter earlier, but Jose Alvarado was left in for that assignment (Altuve flied out). It's hard to believe the Rays have any real faith in Romo, but they'll likely keep using him in the ninth when the matchups warrant it.

Justin Verlander allowed one run over 6 2/3 innings and struck out 10 Tuesday against the Rays.

It was Verlander's best outing of the month thus far, but it wasn't quite enough to secure a win opposite Blake Snell. He struck out 10 for the third time this year. He did give up his ninth homer. Four of those have come in his last three starts.
Jun 19 - 11:50 PM

Hector Rondon took his second loss after giving up a run in a tie game Tuesday against the Rays.

Rondon has been held back for save chances recently, but he came into a 1-1 game in the seventh tonight. While he got one out to end that inning, two hits pushed a run across against him in the eighth. Rondon should remain in the saves picture for now.

C.J. Cron - DH - Rays

C.J. Cron homered off Detroit's Justin Verlander on Tuesday for his first hit since June 10.

Incredibly, Cron doesn't have a hit that's not a homer since way back on June 1. Fortunately, he does have four homers in 15 games since, but his average has tumbled from .271 to .237 in the span.

Eduardo Escobar had a two-run double and an RBI single as the Twins topped the Red Sox 6-2 on Tuesday.

The Twins won by four despite being outhit (8-5), outhomered (1-0) and outwalked (4-3). Escobar had the big hit against Chris Sale, plating two runs in the sixth, and also the go-ahead knock in the eighth after the Red Sox opted for new arrival Robby Scott in a tie game. He has 31 doubles in 66 games this year, which is one more than he had in 234 games between 2016 and 2017 combined.
