Athletics optioned RHP Jesse Hahn to Triple-A Nashville.

Hahn threw 7 2/3 innings of one-run ball Sunday afternoon in the A's win over the Rays, but it was only meant to be a spot start. He should get another try in a few weeks after Oakland sells off some parts.

According to Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports, shortstop prospect Gleyber Torres is part of the Cubs' offer to the Yankees for closer Aroldis Chapman.

That explains why Torres was scratched from the starting lineup Sunday at High-A Myrtle Beach. Heyman says the offer remains on the table for the Yankees, who were said to be close to finalizing a Chapman trade on Saturday night. Chicago may be trying to work out an extension with the impending free agent left-hander. Torres, 19, has batted .275/.359/.433 with nine home runs, 47 RBI, 19 stolen bases, and 62 runs scored over 94 games this season in the Carolina League. He was a consensus top-50 prospect leading into the 2016 campaign.

Trevor Story slugged his 27th homer of the year Sunday in the Rockies' 7-2 victory over the Braves.

It was a two-run shot in the fourth inning off Atlanta rookie Tyrell Jenkins. Story also doubled and scored in the first inning, finishing 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI. Only two middle infielders in major league history have registered 30-homer seasons by age 23: Alex Rodriguez and Nomar Garciaparra. Story is well on his way to becoming the third.
Jul 24 - 7:20 PM

Hanley Ramirez went 2-for-4 with a three-run home run in Sunday's 8-7 win over the Twins.

Ramirez clocked his three-run shot off Twins starter Tommy Milone in the third inning. He has been on an absolute molten hot streak of late and has five homers and 12 RBI over his last five games. The recent power binge has boosted his overall batting line to .282/.362/.459. He can pair that with 13 homers and 60 RBI over 340 at-bats. Ramirez has always possessed a tantalizing power bat, but he has reached the 20-homer mark just once in the last six seasons.

Tyler Chatwood walked eight batters but held the Braves scoreless over five innings Sunday for his ninth win of the season.

That pretty much sums up the current state of the Atlanta offense. Chatwood threw just 51 of his 97 pitches for strikes and put nine batters on base, but the Braves couldn't manage a run until the top of the seventh inning and fell 7-2. Chatwood stands 9-6 with a 3.65 ERA, 1.37 WHIP, and 66/46 K/BB ratio in 103 2/3 innings this season. He'll take on the Mets at home next.
Jul 24 - 7:17 PM

Tyrell Jenkins was hammered for seven earned runs in 3 1/3 innings as the Braves fell to the Rockies on Sunday.

Jenkins walked five and gave up eight hits, including three home runs. The rookie right-hander now has a 6.17 ERA and 1.89 WHIP over his first 23 1/3 major league innings. Maybe he should return to a relief role.
Jul 24 - 7:12 PM

Juan Centeno went 3-for-5 with a two-run double and three total RBI in Sunday's loss to the Red Sox.

Centeno hit a two-run double off Rick Porcello in the second inning. He would later add another double, plus an eighth-inning RBI single. The 26-year-old backstop has picked up five hits in his last eight at-bats. For the season as a whole, he is slashing .265/.301/.398 with two homers and 16 RBI. There is no fantasy intrigue here.
Jul 24 - 7:10 PM

Rick Porcello pitched poorly in Sunday's win over the Twins, yielding five runs (four earned) on six hits over 6 2/3 innings.

Porcello did strike out eight, but he struggled to maintain his consistency and surrendered a pair of runs in the second, one in the fifth and two more in the seventh before being relieved of duty. The 27-year-old right-hander still holds a perfectly reasonable 3.57 ERA and 1.15 WHIP for the season as a whole. He will hit the road for a date with the Angels next time he toes the rubber.
