Robinson Cano is not in the Mariners' lineup Wednesday.

He's just getting a day off. Brad Miller is at second base in Cano's place, while Chris Taylor is handling shortstop.

Angels signed LHP Wesley Wright to a minor league contract.

Wright was released by the Orioles a week ago after being limited to just two appearances due to a shoulder injury. He's healthy now, though, and is a good depth add for the Halos.
Jul 29 - 12:56 PM

Ryan Braun (back) is back in the Brewers' lineup Wednesday.

Braun missed the previous two contests with lower back tightness but is feeling well enough to give it a go. The former MVP is hitting .268/.338/.487 with 18 homers and 16 steals this season.

Byron Buxton (thumb) will take batting practice on the field Thursday before then beginning to play in simulated games at the Twins' spring training complex.

It's unclear how many sim games he'll need, but if they go well Buxton will then be cleared for a rehab assignment. There had been some talk that the young outfielder could be out until as long as late August, but it's looking like it will definitely be sooner than that if he can avoid a setback.

Jim Salisbury of CSNPhilly.com "strongly believes" that the Phillies will trade Cole Hamels to the Rangers.

Salisbury is well-connected with the Phillies and it's the second time in the last few days that he's listed the Rangers as the favorites for Hamels' services. The Dodgers will likely be their biggest competitors, with the Astros, Yankees, Giants, Cubs, Red Sox and Diamondbacks also in the mix.
Jul 29 - 12:48 PM

David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution thinks Arodys Vizcaino is the "most likely" to take over as the Braves' closer if Jim Johnson is traded.

Vizcaino has allowed just one run while striking out eight over nine relief innings since returning from his PED suspension. David Aardsma has also pitched well and would be a candidate, but it looks like Vizcaino is the one to scoop up if you're speculating on saves.
Jul 29 - 12:27 PM

Clayton Kershaw (hip) has been scratched from Wednesday's scheduled start versus the Athletics.

It's unclear when Kershaw's hip/glute started bothering him, but it's not seen as a major issue. The Dodgers hope the left-hander will be ready to start on Saturday or Sunday against the Angels. Mike Bolsinger will take the ball Wednesday instead.
Jul 29 - 12:18 PM

Cubs designated OF Mike Baxter for assignment.

The move clears a spot on the 40-man roster for Ben Rowen. Baxter has hit .246/.348/.263 in 46 games with the big club this season.
