Padres recalled RHP Cory Mazzoni from Triple-A El Paso.

Acquired in late March from the Mets in the Alex Torres deal, Mazzoni allowed one run and had a 13/1 K/BB ratio over 8 1/3 relief innings for El Paso. He'll be used in middle relief.

Padres optioned LHP Chris Rearick to Triple-A El Paso.

He allowed four runs over his three relief innings with the big club. Cory Mazzoni has assumed Rearick's spot in the Padres' bullpen.

Yasiel Puig (hamstring) is not in the Dodgers' lineup Sunday.

It's the second straight game he's missed after aggravating his left hamstring on Friday and sixth contest he's missed overall. The Dodgers could wind up placing Puig on the disabled list, although they've yet to announce such a move. Andre Ethier is in right field Sunday. The club is also going with Alex Guerrero at third base and Justin Turner at second.

Dodgers purchased the contract of RHP Scott Baker from Triple-A Oklahoma City.

He'll get the ball on Sunday against the Padres. With Brandon McCarthy (elbow) presumably out for a while and Hyun-Jin Ryu (shoulder) still on the shelf, Baker could stick around for a bit if he pitches well. He came within one pitch of a seven-inning perfect game for Oklahoma City his last time out.

Dodgers recalled RHP Carlos Frias from Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Frias was with the big club for just one day earlier this month and didn't make an appearance. He'll give the Dodgers another relief arm.

Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak confirmed in an interview on KMOX 1120 AM on Sunday that Adam Wainwright (Achilles) is likely done for the season.

"I would imagine that with this injury he will not pitch again this season, but we want to wait for the reports Monday," the GM said. It's confirmation of an earlier report from FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal as well as what others had speculated. Losing Wainwright is obviously a major hit to the Cards as they seek their third straight division title and fifth straight playoff appearance.
Apr 26 - 12:46 PM

Joe Strauss of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that the Cardinals and John Lackey agreed in spring training to an incentives package that could push the pitcher's total earnings in 2015 past $2 million.

Strauss adds that "neither Lackey, the club, MLB nor the players union has announced the amendment," which is based around the number of appearances the right-hander makes. Lackey base salary this season is just $507,500 due to a contract stipulation he agreed to with the Red Sox which kicked in when he had Tommy John surgery. The Cards were under no obligation to sweeten his deal, but doing so modestly to keep the veteran more motivated is probably a wise move.

Scooter Gennett (hand) will resume swinging a bat on Sunday.

He'll be cleared for full activity when his stitches are removed later this week. Gennett is expected to be activated from the disabled list once his 15 days are up on May 5.
