Jonathan Schoop has been diagnosed with a stress fracture in his back and will need 6-8 weeks of rest.

Schoop will meet with another doctor later this week for a second opinion, but it seems doubtful that the diagnosis will change. The 21-year-old infielder was batting .268/.331/.386 with three homers and 18 RBI in 34 games at the Triple-A level. It is no longer a certainty that he will reach the major leagues this season.

Ross Wolf allowed one run in five innings Wednesday against the A's to pick up his first big-league win.

Wolf entered the day 0-1 in 25 career appearances, all in relief. The journeyman was drafted by the Marlins way back in 2002, and his previous major league appearances had come with the Marlins in 2007 and the A's in 2010. He's probably going to head back to Triple-A now, but he put himself in position for another callup later with the nice showing.

Jarrod Parker dropped to 2-6 after surrendering three runs in seven innings Wednesday against the Rangers.

Another solid outing for Parker, even if he did allow two homers. He's turned in three straight quality starts, and he has a 22/9 K/BB ratio in four turns this month after finish April with an 18/16 K/BB ratio in six starts.

Hyun-Jin Ryu held the Brewers to two runs in 7 1/3 innings in the Dodgers' 9-2 victory Wednesday.

It's the seventh time in 10 big-league starts that Ryu has allowed two earned runs or fewer. It's curious that his strikeout rate has dipped of late -- he has just 14 K's in his past four starts combined -- but he has his ERA down to 3.30.

Matt Dominguez is out of the Astros' lineup on Wednesday night because of left quad tightness.

The Astros have a scheduled team off day on Thursday, so giving Dominguez the night off Wednesday affords him two full days of rest. The 23-year-old third baseman is batting just .245/.275/.371 in 43 games this season but he's one of the best defensive infielders in MLB.
May 22 - 4:52 PM

Wily Peralta lasted just 1 2/3 innings and gave up six runs -- four earned -- Wednesday in a loss to the Dodgers.

Even Peralta's good outings haven't been anything special, and he's now 3-5 with a 6.45 ERA for the season. The Brewers may think about making a switch to Mike Fiers and sending Peralta down. Unfortunately, their Triple-A rotation has been awful, so there's no help there.
May 22 - 4:52 PM

Scott Van Slyke doubled twice and knocked in two runs while starting in place of the benched Andre Ethier on Wednesday.

It's rather bizarre that the Dodgers have talked about promoting Yasiel Puig or Joc Pederson when Van Slyke has three homers and now two doubles in five starts for the club. He's not a great long-term bet, but he's been on fire at the plate all year long.

Making his first appearance in 15 days, Ramon Hernandez went 2-for-3 with a homer and two walks on Wednesday.

Manager Don Mattingly made it obvious he prefers Tim Federowicz to Hernandez as A.J. Ellis' backup, but with Federowicz back in Triple-A, he had no choice but to give Hernandez just his second start in May and sixth of the season. Hernandez came through in a big way, but we'll see if that makes any difference to Mattingly.
