Browns coach Hue Jackson suggested suspended WR Josh Gordon will play Friday against the Bucs.

"I think we have a good chance for that to happen," Jackson said. With first-rounder Corey Coleman also back, the Browns will get a chance to see what their offense can look like after Gordon returns from his four-game suspension. With Coleman, Gordon, and Terrelle Pryor at receiver, it certainly looks explosive on paper.

Jets TE coach Jimmie Johnson said Jace Amaro is still a "work in progress" as a blocker.

"He has done a better job sustaining his blocks and trying to stay engaged," Johnson said. "All of that is promising." Amaro has also continued his struggle with drops this preseason, missing two sure catches when an injury to Quincy Enunwa afforded him extra snaps in the second preseason game. With plenty of questions left to answer, it appears unlikely Amaro grabs an early-season role.

The Lions offense has utilized a no-huddle look on 62 percent of their plays during the preseason.

Detroit used the no-huddle on just 7% of their plays last season, finishing 30th in situation-neutral pace according to Football Outsiders. Both numbers should be significantly higher this year, and that is something Matthew Stafford is happy to see. "The faster you can push the tempo, when you want to, really, it just makes it more stressful on the defense," Stafford said. "If you feel like you're playing at a normal speed, and they think you're playing really fast, it feels a whole lot better for us." Stafford shined with OC Jim Bob Cooter calling the shots late last season, and the coordinator is molding his system to Stafford's strengths again this year. Currently the 16th quarterback off the board, it is possible Stafford is being undervalued.

Cowboys suspended DE Demarcus Lawrence promised a "big impact" once he returns.

Lawrence was suspended four games for violating the substance-abuse policy. With Randy Gregory suspended indefinitely, the Cowboys are extremely thin along the defensive line, but Lawrence still thinks they can be productive. "I just feel like I’ve just got to do my job and make sure everybody’s ready to do their job," he said, "and it’ll be a great group." Despite the optimism, Dallas will likely struggle to create pressure all season.

Lions SLB Kyle Van Noy has all but locked up a starting job.

"I think he's improved dramatically as a football player," DC Teryl Austin said. "Like anything, until we get to the games, we'll know more. But I'm pleased with his progress and what he's doing, and he's been competing well. I like where he is right now." On track to be a second-round bust through two seasons, Van Noy should finally get an opportunity to play a significant role.

Walk-year QB Drew Brees again said he will not negotiate a contract extension after the start of the regular season.

"That’s always been my mindset and my approach," Brees said. "I hope that we can get something done between now and then, I’m confident that we can but you know at this point still just very much focused on getting us ready to play for Week 1." If something is going to happen, Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio was told it will most likely happen next week. Brees is set to earn $20 million in the final year of his deal.

Trevor Siemian said he thinks the Broncos' quarterback competition is ongoing.

"I’m not reading too much into it, to be honest with you," Siemian said of being named the starter for the third preseason game. "I think it’s a good opportunity for us to take another step as a team." Gary Kubiak will be giddy to hear his new starting quarterback is a veteran at coachspeak. Unless he faceplants on Saturday, Siemian will open the season as the starter.

Chiefs released S Stevie Brown.

Brown has struggled to maintain an NFL roster spot since intercepting eight passes with the Giants in 2012. Brown is running out of chances at age 29.
