Chad Bettis coughed up eight earned runs, nine hits and five walks over just 4 2/3 innings in a no-decision against the Mets on Wednesday.

Bettis threw just 56 of his 97 pitches for strikes, including just 16 first-pitch strikes to the 27 batters he faced, for a game score of just 13. He has been horrible at home, posting a 0-0 record with an 8.75 ERA in seven starts at Coors Field vs. a 5-1 record and 2.70 ERA in eight starts away from home. Fortunately for his fantasy owners his next scheduled start will be Tuesday in San Francisco before working on the road against the Dodgers next Sunday.

Dominic Smith went 3-for-5 with a double, a triple and two runs scored in Wednesday's 10-8 road loss against the Rockies.

Smith could see some regular at-bats with Jay Bruce (hip) on the 10-day disabled list. He played outfield for Triple-A Las Vegas and his natural position is first base. His versatility and offensive upside will get him into the lineup on a regular basis until the Mets start to get back to health. Trades this summer could also potentially open up a job for the remainder of the season.
Jun 21 - 1:21 AM

Asdrubal Cabrera finished Wednesday's 10-8 loss in Colorado with a single, a double, a walk and two RBI across five at-bats.

Cabrera is working on a four-game multi-hit streak and he has driven in five runs during the outing. His batting average plummeted from .315 to .267 as a result of a 5-for-55 skid (.090) from May 29 to June 16. However, he is working his way back up to a good number and improving his trade stock again leading up to the non-waiver trade deadline.
Jun 21 - 1:13 AM

Danny Valencia went 2-for-3 with a stolen base and an RBI in a 3-0 interleague shutout of the Nationals on Wednesday.

He laced a double in the ballgame but the RBI came on a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning. The stolen base was his first of the season. Valencia has steadily worked his way into a near-everyday role in the starting lineup. The added playing time hasn't yet turned him into a strong fantasy asset but owners could definitely do worse in AL-only leagues. He has a .285/.351/.464 triple-slash with six homers and 18 RBI in 151 at-bats.
Jun 21 - 1:10 AM

Seth Lugo allowed six runs - three earned - and six hits with two walks and five strikeouts across three innings in a no-decision Wednesday at Colorado.

Lugo was outstanding in his first start of the season June 10, beating the Yankees while working six scoreless frames. He is 0-1 with a 9.00 ERA in two starts since, yielding eight earned runs over eight innings with 14 hits allowed, including three homers. His next scheduled outing is Monday night against Jameson Taillon and the Pirates to kick off a two-start week.
Jun 21 - 1:05 AM

Adam Jones went 2-for-4 and scored a run during a win over the Nationals on Wednesday.

He doubled leading off the sixth inning and came around to score on a Danny Valencia sacrifice fly. The veteran outfielder is putting together another quality season at the dish, slashing .296/.320/.460 with 10 homers and 31 RBI in 69 games. His days as a base-stealer are long gone -- he hasn't even attempted to swipe a bag yet this year.
Jun 21 - 1:03 AM

Andrew Cashner tossed four scoreless innings against the Nationals before a long rain delay on Wednesday.

He didn't come back out after the rain delay and it likely cost him a win as the Orioles went on to shut out the Nationals. He surrendered three hits without issuing a walk and striking out two in the brief outing. Cashner's record holds at 2-8 with a 4.72 ERA. His 1.64 WHIP is the worst in the majors among qualified starters.
Jun 21 - 12:57 AM

Juan Soto went 1-for-3 and worked a walk against the Orioles in Wednesday's rain-soaked affair.

The teenager's one hit was a double. The return of Adam Eaton has not cut into Soto's playing time at all as the Nationals have opted to bench Michael Taylor rather than send their rookie phenom back to the minor leagues. Soto will stay in the lineup every day as long as he keeps hitting -- and he has never stopped hitting since the day he signed a pro contract. He has an amazing .326/.423/.596 slash line with six homers and 14 RBI in his first 27 major league games while most prospects his age are getting ready to begin their pro careers in short-season rookie ball.
