Brad Miller is not in the Rays' lineup Thursday against the Yankees.

Tyler Austin (hamstring) will begin a minor league rehab assignment after the Yankees conclude their current homestand.

According to MLB.com's Mark Feinsand, the Twins are "fielding calls" on Brandon Kintzler and Brian Dozier.

The slumping Twins have gone from buyers to sellers in the span of a week. Dozier attracted significant trade interest last offseason following his breakout 2016 campaign while the All-Star Kintzler would make sense for a bullpen-needy team like the Dodgers or Red Sox. The Twins are also said to be shopping Ervin Santana and Jaime Garcia, who Minnesota acquired from Atlanta earlier this week.

According to MLB Network's Jon Morosi, the Dodgers are "increasingly confident" that they will acquire one of Yu Darvish, Sonny Gray or Justin Verlander ahead of Monday's trade deadline.

The Dodgers were looking to upgrade their rotation even before injuries sent Clayton Kershaw and Brandon McCarthy to the disabled list. With Kershaw facing a potentially lengthy absence, L.A.'s sense of urgency has obviously increased. Darvish, Gray and Verlander have all drawn varying degrees of interest leading up to the deadline. Out of those three, Verlander would probably be L.A.'s fall-back given his age and exorbitant salary. The Dodgers are already the best team in baseball and adding a top-flight starter would probably make them World Series favorites.

Aaron Hicks (oblique) is expected to begin a minor league rehab assignment after the Yankees conclude their current homestand.

New York's nine-game homestand will wrap up next Wednesday, at which point Hicks and Tyler Austin (hamstring) will both set out on rehab assignments. A strained oblique has sidelined Hicks since late June. New York's outfield is crowded right now with Aaron Judge, Brett Gardner, Clint Frazier and Jacoby Ellsbury all serving important roles. But if Hicks hits like he did before his injury (.290, 10 HR, 37 RBI, seven steals in 200 at-bats), the Yankees will find a spot for him.

Travis Shaw homered and drew two walks Thursday in the Brewers' loss to the Nationals.

There weren't many positives for the Brewers in the 15-2 rout, but Shaw kept right on rolling. He hit a monster solo blast to right field in the top of the fourth inning off likely Cy Young Award winner Max Scherzer, giving him 24 home runs and 74 RBI for the year. The third baseman is slashing .299/.370/.586 over 91 games.
Jul 27 - 3:43 PM

Ryan Zimmerman clubbed a pair of homers in the Nationals' thrashing of the Brewers on Thursday.

Zimmerman hit a solo blast in the bottom of the third inning and a two-run shot in the bottom of the fourth, finishing 2-for-5 with three RBI and two runs scored in the 15-2 rout of Milwaukee. Washington's batters combined for a total of eight home runs on the afternoon, with Bryce Harper also belting two. Zimmerman now has 22 home runs and 72 RBI on the year, to go along with a .318/.359/.582 batting line.

Lewis Brinson homered for the second straight day Thursday afternoon against the Nationals.

Brinson took Enny Romero deep in the top of the seventh inning, finishing 1-for-3 in the eventual 15-2 loss at Nationals Park. The 23-year-old top outfield prospect looks primed for a productive stretch run in his second taste of major league action. He should be owned in most standard mixed fantasy leagues.
