Fifth-rounder Rashad Greene could begin the season as the Jaguars' No. 3 receiver.

NJ.com reports Odell Beckham has been dominating "every practice."

It shouldn't come as a surprise, but Beckham isn't resting on his laurels after his freak-of-nature rookie season. Some regression is inevitable, but Beckham is an elite WR1, and a legitimate threat to finish as the No. 1 overall receiver.

Ryan Mallett missed Thursday's practice because he overslept.

It's hard to fathom for a 27-year-old man who was in pursuit of the Texans' starting job as recently as three days ago. The Texans gave Mallett a chance to make something of his career after three years in the Patriots backup wilderness, and he's responded in remarkably limp fashion. The Browns have a strong case, as well, but you could argue Houston has the worst quarterback situation in the NFL.

The Buffalo News' Vic Carucci believes there's been "nothing at camp that indicates" E.J. Manuel is a serious contender for the Bills' starting job.

This has been the consensus all summer long, making it all the more baffling that coach Rex Ryan has decided Manuel will start this weekend's regular season dress rehearsal over Tyrod Taylor and Matt Cassel. The most sensible theory is that Ryan is trying to throw the Colts off before Week 1, but Ryan has to know presumptive starter Taylor needs all the preseason reps with the 1s he can get. Perhaps the Bills believe Manuel could generate trade interest with a decent showing. Whatever the reasoning, it's hard to understand.

Jets signed QB Josh Johnson.

The veteran retread will be a live body for the Jets' final two preseason games.

NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports Martavis Bryant's four-game suspension is for "multiple failed marijuana tests."

Per Rapsheet, Bryant's appeal is in "the latter stages." Bryant now has all the makings of a boom-or-bust WR3, especially since Markus Wheaton has supposedly looked ready to break out as the Steelers' No. 2 receiver. Bryant's touchdown upside makes him worth a later-round draft pick and stash in re-draft leagues, but it can't be assumed he'll simply pick up where he left off in his impressive rookie campaign.

Robert Griffin III (concussion) has been officially cleared for Saturday's preseason game.

The embattled starter could see upwards of a half of action against the Ravens. Griffin remains Washington's No. 1, but his grip will grow extremely tenuous if Saturday goes as poorly as last week's game did.

Giants S Nat Berhe will undergo calf surgery on Friday, and is out indefinitely.

NorthJersey.com reports Berhe will either be sent to I.R., or I.R./return. Berhe had a bead on a starting job opposite Landon Collins before his calf started acting up in OTAs. The Giants are left with Brandon Meriweather, Jeromy Miles, and Cooper Taylor behind rookie box safety Collins. It's a sorry unit.
