CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora reports there is "not a chance" the Chiefs agree to a long-term deal with OLB Justin Houston before this season is over.

Colts FS Delano Howell's neck injury is not believed to be career-ending.

Howell has spent much of the week in Minneapolis meeting with a specialist to determine the next course of action. The Colts will talk to the doctors Friday. Howell remains out indefinitely. Mike Adams is filling in next to LaRon Landry.

Colts second-round OL Jack Mewhort had arthroscopic surgery on his right knee following minicamp in the spring, and he's now experiencing some discomfort.

Mewhort hasn't practiced this week and is questionable for the Colts' third preseason game. Originailly not expected to start, Mewhort is penciled in as the Colts' starting left guard following Donald Thomas' season-ending torn quad. Indianapolis' offensive line is a major area of concern, especially the interior.

Coach Lovie Smith called Doug Martin the Bucs' "bell cow" at running back.

"With Mike James going down with an injury and with Charles Sims going down, Doug is our bell cow," Smith said. "He likes that role. He's had a good camp, hasn't missed a beat. He's going to rush for a lot of yards for us this year." Martin's had a quiet summer, leading some to believe he's more RB2 than RB1, but he's the lead dog in an offense that projects to lean heavily on its run game. We think Martin has tremendous value at his current early-third-round ADP. The offensive line being able to open holes consistently is a major question mark.

The NFL fined Johnny Manziel $12,000 for directing a middle finger at the Redskins' bench in Monday night's second preseason game

Manziel can appeal the fine and have it reduced to 25 percent of his weekly check, which would be about $6,000. It's really a non-issue, but became one because of who Manziel is and that it was caught on national television.

The Bengals have named rookie Russell Bodine their starting center.

The fourth-round pick out of UNC beat out Mike Pollak, who will now fit in as Cincy's top interior reserve. From left to right, the Bengals' starting OL reads LT Andrew Whitworth, LG Clint Boling, C Bodine, RG Kevin Zeitler, RT Andre Smith. Pro Football Focus has had Bodine struggling in the preseason, although the coaching staff clearly sees him as a high-ceiling option.

Giants undrafted WRs Corey Washington and Marcus Harris are expected to get some work with the first-team offense in Friday's fourth preseason game.

It's expected to come at the expense of Jerrel Jernigan, who is in danger of being cut. Washington has been the Giants' best receiver this summer, reeling in all seven of his targets for 116 yards and three scores. Washington is fully expected to make the 53-man roster. Harris is likely competing with Mario Manningham.

ESPN Packers reporter Rob Demovsky considers seventh-round WR Jeff Janis a lock to make the 53-man roster.

Janis has had a strong camp and then scored a 34-yard catch-and-run touchdown last weekend against the Rams. There's no way he'd sneak through waivers and onto the Packers' practice squad. Janis will likely open the season as the Packers' No. 5 receiver. He needs to be owned in all Dynasty formats.
