Francisco Liriano allowed one run on three hits over three innings against the Orioles on Wednesday.

In his final Grapefruit league start, Liriano continued his strong spring, striking out two without walking a batter. The lone run came on an Everth Cabrera solo homer. It was the only run the southpaw allowed in 12 innings this spring, finishing with 14 strikeouts. Liriano's next start will come on Opening Day.

Chris Tillman struck out eight over five innings of two-run ball in his final Grapefruit League start Wednesday against the Pirates.

The Orioles' Opening Day starter made one mistake, which Pedro Alvarez hit for a two-run homer. Tillman only allowed three hits on the night, and he didn't walk a batter. The start was the final outing of a strong spring from the right-hander. He finished with a 2.76 ERA and 18 strikeouts in 16 1/3 innings, and he's trending in the right direction ahead of Monday's opener at Tampa Bay.

Andrew McCutchen said he's fine after leaving Wednesday's Cactus League game.

McCutchen was removed after failing to run out a ground ball in the eighth inning, but it was just precautionary. He slipped on home plate getting out of the box and didn't want to push it. "I think I made the team already," McCutchen said after the game. Crisis averted.
Apr 1 - 9:58 PM

Andrew McCutchen left Wednesday's Grapefruit League game against the Orioles with an undisclosed injury.

McCutchen grounded out to end the top of the eighth inning, and he appeared to pull up lame coming out of the box. He didn't run out the ground ball and walked off slowly before being removed. After dealing with lower body soreness earlier in camp, a lower-body injury is a bad sign for the superstar. The Pirates should give us an update on his condition shortly.

Eddie Butler (shoulder) is still in the mix for a spot in the Rockies' starting rotation.

Butler, along with Christian Bergman, Jon Gray and Chad Bettis, are fighting for a finite number of spots in the rotation, and as of Wednesday nothing had been decided. Right shoulder fatigue threatened Butler's chances, but he threw long toss on Wednesday and Rockies manager Walt Weiss said the session went better than expected. Butler and Gray have the most long-term potential of the four, but it appears to be a toss-up as to who gets the job at this point.

An MRI showed Brendan Ryan has a Grade 2 right calf strain.

That's pretty serious, and the severity was underlined by the Yankees' expedience in acquiring shortstop Gregorio Petit from the Astros. Ryan will start the year on the disabled list, and it's unclear at this point how long the strain will keep him sidelined.
Apr 1 - 8:49 PM

Rafael Ynoa has made the Rockies' Opening Day roster.

The infielder made the club by hitting .300/.323/.350 this spring. He'll serve in a utility role with the Rockies.
Apr 1 - 8:45 PM

Rockies purchased the contract of RHP Rafael Betancourt from Triple-A Albuquerque.

The former Rockies closer has enjoyed a career resurgence this spring following Tommy John surgery, posting a 1.04 ERA and 10/1 K/BB ratio in 8 2/3 innings of work. With Rex Brothers in the minors, Betancourt could even work his way into a setup role for closer LaTroy Hawkins. It's worth remembering for those in fantasy leagues that count holds.
