Blue Jays optioned LHP Rob Rasmussen to Triple-A Buffalo.

The move clears a spot for newly-acquired Danny Valencia on the active roster. Rasmussen owns a 3.18 ERA over 10 appearances with the Blue Jays this season and should get another shot with the big club down the stretch.

Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports hears from a club official that the Diamondbacks aren't moving Wade Miley.

The Marlins are among the teams who have checked in about Miley, but the Diamondbacks are inclined to keep him. The 27-year-old southpaw owns a 4.34 ERA and 131/42 K/BB ratio over 139 innings this season. He'll be arbitration-eligible for the first time this winter and is under team control through 2017.

Buster Olney of ESPN.com writes that the "perception" around the Indians is that they are ready to move both Asdrubal Cabrera and Justin Masterson.

The Indians are just four games out in the AL Wild Card race and 6 1/2 games back in the AL Central, but they could move one or both if the right offer comes along. Cabrera and Masterson are both set to become free agents this offseason.

Chris Cotillo of MLB Daily Dish hears from a major league source that there is "still a good chance" that the Padres deal Joaquin Benoit before Thursday's trade deadline.

The Padres have already traded Huston Street this month, but they could also move Benoit if the right offer comes along. The Tigers are likely out as a possibility after the Joakim Soria deal, but teams like the Pirates and Indians could be in the mix. Benoit is owed $8 million next season while his contract includes an $8 million vesting option or $1.5 million buyout for 2016, so the Padres have no sense of urgency to move him. Dale Thayer could take over the closer role if Benoit ends up elsewhere.

Giants shortstop prospect Christian Arroyo went 4-for-5 for short season-A Salem-Keizer on Monday.

Arroyo is now hitting .477/.500/.523 during an 11-game hitting steak, raising his season line to .329/.378/.421. The 19-year old was the 25th overall pick in the 2013 draft, and has been exclusively playing shortstop during his time in the Northwest League. Arroyo likely will spend the rest of his season with Salem-Keizer, and return to Low-A Augusta for 2015.

Astros right-handed pitching prospect Vince Velasquez threw five innings for High-A Lancaster on Monday, scattering two hits, one walk, and two hit batsman while allowing two runs.

Velasquez was solid in his return from a groin injury, teaming with Josh Hader to shut down the High Desert Mavericks. Velasquez employs a low-mid-90s fastball and a well above-average change-up to keep batters off balance, and has the potential to be a solid No. 3 pitcher. He could see time in Houston as soon as late-2015, and may be in line for a promotion to Double-A Corpus Christi if he can stay healthy.
Jul 29 - 10:34 AM

Astros left-handed pitching prospect Josh Hader struck out three batters over four shutout innings, scattering two hits and one walk for High-A Lancaster on Monday.

Hader relieved Vince Velasquez and picked up the four inning save, which included holding Mariners prospect Gabriel Guerrero hitless in two at bats while striking him out once. Hader has silently dominated California League hitters in 2014, holding them to a .201/.286/.319 line while putting up a 10.1 K/9. He was picked in the 19th round in 2012, and was acquired from the Orioles with L.J. Hoes in exchange for Bud Norris during 2013, so he was not viewed as a top prospect prior to the season.
Jul 29 - 10:30 AM

Blue Jays third base prospect Mitch Nay went 2-for-5 with a double and four RBI for Low-A Lansing on Monday.

The 20-year old Nay has a .279/.337/.373 line for the season, and has hit .303/.356/.405 since the beginning of June. He has a knack for solid contact and has the potential to hit .280 with 20 home runs, but will need a few more years to have a chance to reach his potential.
