Shane Victorino is not planning on retiring, per Chris Cotillo of MLB Daily Dish.

Victorino was released from his minor league contract with the Cubs on Monday after batting .233/.324/.367 through nine games with Triple-A Iowa. The 35-year-old is looking for another opportunity, but interest figures to be limited at this stage of his career.

Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports that James Loney's representatives plan to contact the Mets to gauge interest.

Lucas Duda is out indefinitely with a stress fracture in his back, so it could be a natural fit. Sherman hears that the Mets at least have "some curiosity" about the possibility. Loney, 32, is batting .333/.368/.417 with two home runs and 23 RBI over 39 games with the Padres' Triple-A affiliate. He has the ability to opt of his minor league deal if he finds an opportunity in the majors.

Alex Rodriguez (hamstring) will play a minor league rehab game with Double-A Trenton on Tuesday.

Rodriguez wasn't originally expected to require a minor league rehab assignment as he makes his way back from a hamstring strain, but there has been a change of plans. Assuming he feels good, the Yankees could bring him back on Wednesday.
May 24 - 10:54 AM

Carson Smith (elbow) will undergo season-ending Tommy John surgery on Tuesday.

Smith missed the first month of the season while recovering from a flexor tendon strain and made just three appearances before hitting the DL again earlier this month. Now he'll be sidelined through the early part of next season. It's a brutal blow for the Red Sox, who acquired Smith from the Mariners over the winter in hopes that he would be one of their most valuable late-inning arms. They could be in the market for a reliever as the summer moves along.
May 24 - 10:21 AM

Christian Yelich (back) is out of the Marlins' lineup again Tuesday against the Rays.

Yelich has missed three straight starts with back spasms. He was announced as a pinch-hitter Monday, but Cole Gillespie ultimately took the at-bat. He remains day-to-day. The hot-hitting Ichiro Suzuki will continue to play left field. He's batting leadoff Tuesday against right-hander Jake Odorizzi.
May 24 - 10:13 AM

Jason Motte (shoulder) struck out two batters over a scoreless inning Monday in his latest minor league rehab appearance with Triple-A Albuquerque.

Motte, who has been out since spring training with a shoulder strain, owns a 3.18 ERA and 5/3 K/BB ratio over 5 2/3 innings during his rehab stint. His next appearance could be with the Rockies.
May 24 - 9:42 AM

Khris Davis (forearm) went 0-for-4 with a strikeout in his return to the lineup Monday against the Mariners.

Davis was limited to pinch-hitting duties Sunday after leaving Saturday's game with tightness in his right forearm, but he felt well enough to serve as the DH on Monday. He should be ready to return to the outfield soon.
May 24 - 9:05 AM

Matt Belisle (calf) tossed a scoreless inning Monday in his first minor league rehab appearance with High-A Potomac.

Belisle, who is working his way back from a right calf strain, gave up one hit and struck out one. He should be back in the Nationals' bullpen in a few days. The veteran right-hander had a 1.50 ERA in seven appearances prior to hitting the DL.
